Voltage collapse - experience and modelling

IEE Colloquium on Voltage Collapse, 1997
The problems found in the control of voltage will depend on the geography of the power system (relative location of power sources and demand, terrain), demand levels and the development stage reached, for instance, the type and amount of reactive power compensation.

Technique for online prediction of voltage collapse

IEE Proceedings - Generation, Transmission and Distribution, 2004
A new technique for predicting voltage collapse in power systems in an online mode is described. This technique uses the voltage magnitude and voltage angle information at buses and the network admittance matrix to predict voltage collapse. The performance of the technique was studied for a variety of operating conditions.

Voltage collapse phenomena in wind parks

18th International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2005), 2005
Wind power is rapidly growing in the world. For reasons of economy the network interconnection is often designed without redundancy. This means that the nominal power of the transformer to the transmission system is in the range of the nominal power of all wind generators of a wind farm. Short circuit faults are in power systems unavoidable and cause a

An approach for estimating the static voltage collapse

2005 International Power Engineering Conference, 2005
The law of how the minimum absolute eigenvalue of the Jacobian matrix varies with the load of power systems is analyzed, based on which a new approach is proposed to estimate the static voltage collapse. BPA is used to calculate power flows with the increasing loads. Using the new approached method, the critical point of the static voltage collapse can

On the Existence of Voltage Collapse in Islanded Microgrid

2018 IEEE Electrical Power and Energy Conference (EPEC), 2018
The future smart grid entails clusters with plug-and-play features known as microgrids. Each microgrid hosts a mix of distributed energy resources including synchronous-based. Nevertheless, synchronous-based generators, are characterised by their limited reactive power capabilities which could lead to voltage collapse problem during islanding ...

Prediction of voltage collapse in power systems

Proceedings of Thirtieth Southeastern Symposium on System Theory, 2002
Voltage collapse is the loss of stability in a power system due to a rapid decrease in voltage causing blackouts. This paper discusses the prediction of voltage collapse of power systems. Algorithms are established which can be used to calculate the critical load point and provide information on system voltage variation with the load.

Discussion on some voltage collapse indices

Electric Power Systems Research, 2000
Abstract This paper discusses some voltage collapse indices with the help of bifurcation theory. Two main topics are presented: first, the identification of a well-behaved eigenvalue as a function of load increase; second a theoretical interpretation of the results. For this purpose, the center manifold theorem is employed.
