Voltage collapse phenomena in wind parks

18th International Conference and Exhibition on Electricity Distribution (CIRED 2005), 2005
Wind power is rapidly growing in the world. For reasons of economy the network interconnection is often designed without redundancy. This means that the nominal power of the transformer to the transmission system is in the range of the nominal power of all wind generators of a wind farm. Short circuit faults are in power systems unavoidable and cause a

On the Existence of Voltage Collapse in Islanded Microgrid

2018 IEEE Electrical Power and Energy Conference (EPEC), 2018
The future smart grid entails clusters with plug-and-play features known as microgrids. Each microgrid hosts a mix of distributed energy resources including synchronous-based. Nevertheless, synchronous-based generators, are characterised by their limited reactive power capabilities which could lead to voltage collapse problem during islanding ...

Prediction of voltage collapse in power systems

Proceedings of Thirtieth Southeastern Symposium on System Theory, 2002
Voltage collapse is the loss of stability in a power system due to a rapid decrease in voltage causing blackouts. This paper discusses the prediction of voltage collapse of power systems. Algorithms are established which can be used to calculate the critical load point and provide information on system voltage variation with the load.

An approach for estimating the static voltage collapse

2005 International Power Engineering Conference, 2005
The law of how the minimum absolute eigenvalue of the Jacobian matrix varies with the load of power systems is analyzed, based on which a new approach is proposed to estimate the static voltage collapse. BPA is used to calculate power flows with the increasing loads. Using the new approached method, the critical point of the static voltage collapse can

An optimal strategy against voltage collapse

[1991] Proceedings of the 34th Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems, 2002
An optimal strategy is presented to offer a preliminary solution to the growing concern of voltage collapse. The optimal strategy will maximize the power transfer within a given system while minimizing the necessary amount of shunt reactive power (VAr) support before voltage collapse is encountered.

Computing Rare Probabilities of Voltage Collapse

This paper introduces a framework based on Large Deviation Theory (LDT) to accurately and efficiently compute the rare probabilities of voltage collapse. We formulate the problem as finding the most probable failure point (the instanton) on the stability boundary and derive both first-order and second-order approximations for the collapse probability ...
