Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

A flexible DSTATCOM operating in voltage or current control mode

open access: yes, 2002
The topology and control are discussed of a distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM) that can be operated flexibly in the voltage or current control mode.

The human gut microbiome across the life course

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Despite significant individual variation and continuous change throughout life, the human gut microbiome follows some life stage‐specific trends. This article provides a brief overview of how gut microbiome composition shifts across different phases of life. Created in BioRender. Özkurt, E. (2026) https://BioRender.com/8q4nrnc.

Dynamic Boundary Dissemination to Virtual Power Plants for Congestion and Voltage Management in Power Distribution Networks

open access: yesEnergies
Virtual power plants (VPPs) are optimized to maximize profits by efficiently scheduling their resources. However, dynamic power trading over existing distribution networks can lead to voltage disturbances and branch congestion, posing risks to network ...

Septin 9 PB domains coordinate centrosome positioning and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Septin 9 polybasic domains couple phosphoinositide‐rich membrane binding to centrosome positioning, Golgi organization, and microtubule acetylation to control epithelial polarity. Their loss disrupts this axis, causing centrosome mispositioning, Golgi fragmentation, reduced microtubule acetylation, and polarity inversion via upregulation of the ...

Linear Active Disturbance Rejection Control-Based Voltage Controller for Buck and Boost DC/DC Converters in DC Distribution Grids

open access: yesIEEE Access
DC distribution grids have recently gained research attention for the efficient integration of converter-interfaced distributed energy resources (DER). This paper presents a voltage controller for the buck and boost DC/DC DER-interfacing converters that ...

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.
