Determination of the parameters of voltage variation with voltage fluctuation indices

A set of parameters that describe the quality of power in power grids includes several measures of voltage variation. Among these measures are the voltage fluctuation indices, composed of magnitude, δU, and rate, ƒ, of fluctuations. This paper provides an example of the use of this measure to reconstruct the voltage changes.

In addition to wide band thermal noise, metal-electrolyte interfaces generate spontaneous voltage fluctuations of electrochemical origin. They range in duration from less than 100 msec to more than several seconds. Special activities are spikes and semi-periodic oscillations. Amplitudes are usually below 1 mV on macroscopic specimens.
