Interleaved resonant switched capacitor voltage multiplier

In this paper we present an interleaved switched capacitor voltage multiplier with resonant-type current between capacitors. The proposed converter features are: step up gain, low input current ripple, soft switching, and modular structure without using energy storage inductors.

Theoretical performance of voltage multiplier circuits

An expression for the equivalent source resistance of the capacitor diode voltage multiplier circuit is derived. The source resistance is found to increase as the cube of the multiplication factor, explaining the poor regulation observed with large multiplication. The distribution of capacitors that minimizes source resistance is presented.

The Cockcroft-Walton Voltage Multiplying Circuit

The conventional Cockcroft-Walton voltage multiplying circuit is studied considering it as a transmission line. It is shown that, even when no direct current is drawn from the high voltage electrode, there is an important loss in output voltage caused by circulating currents in the stray capacitances.

A 1 MHz voltage multiplier design

A circuit design tutorial is presented for a general purpose capacitor charge pump voltage multiplier. Circuit design equations for ideal and non-ideal MOSFET switches are developed. Using the equations, a practical implementation at 1 MHz operating frequency is then presented. Experimental results are used to confirm the validity of the design process.
