Relationship between generator affinity and voltage profile improvement

2012 10th International Power & Energy Conference (IPEC), 2012
This paper demonstrates the relationship between generator affinity and voltage profile improvement. Circuit theory and the partitioned Y-admittance matrix were used to derive the generator affinity for power system networks. Results show that the lowest voltages occur at buses without generator affinity.

Voltage Profile Improvement Using Static Synchronous Compensator STATCOM

Journal of Information, Communication and Intelligence Systems, 2023
Static synchronous compensator (STATCOM) is a regulating device used in AC transmission systems as a source or a sink of reactive power. The most common use of the STATCOM is in improving the voltage stability of the transmission system. A voltage regulator is a custom power device used to correct the voltage disturbance by injecting controllable ...

Voltage profile improvement based on network structural characteristics

2012 Sixth IEEE/PES Transmission and Distribution: Latin America Conference and Exposition (T&D-LA), 2012
This paper demonstrates voltage profile improvement by partitioning the Y-admittance and the application of circuit theory on power system networks. The partitioned Y-admittance matrix and eigenvalue decomposition technique were used to identify the suitable locations for reactive power compensators.

A Study of Voltage Profile Improvement Using DVR

2017 International Conference on Information Technology (ICIT), 2017
One of the most important concerns in the power system study of present era is power quality improvement. It becomes important now due to the introduction of various industrial devices and sensitive loads. The main issues lying with power quality are voltage sags and swells at the distribution side.

Voltage profile improvement in power systems - A review

2014 International Conference on Advances in Electrical Engineering (ICAEE), 2014
Voltage Stability is a severe problem in power systems, which steadily reach operating limits imposed by economic and environmental conditions. Whenever there is a change in load the system voltage level changes. With the drop in voltage level, the reactive power demand increases.

A predictive control strategy for improving HVDC converter voltage profile

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1989
A control strategy is presented to enhance the converter bus voltage profile for HVDC systems with power modulation capability. A two-terminal HVDC system is considered. The algorithm predicts the value of reactive power needed to maintain a preset converter bus voltage for a specified value of the DC power during the modulation period.

Operating Strategies Optimization of STATCOM for Improvement of Voltage Profile

2021 International Conference on Computing, Communication, and Intelligent Systems (ICCCIS), 2021
The old power grid was not designed to meet the increased future demands of a restructured electricity market place, the digital society energy requirements, or the increase in the usage and variability of renewable power generation. As a result, the electric grid needs to be upgraded to a high-performance system that will have the full capability to ...

Sensitivity-based reactive power control for voltage profile improvement

IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, 1993
The authors present a procedure for dispatching reactive power when voltage deviations are not acceptable. The proposed method, intended for real-time use, determines which control variables are actually effective for solving voltage violations. Efficiency is measured according to sensitivities, current voltage profile and reserve margin of control ...

Application of UPFC for improving micro-grid voltage profile

2010 IEEE International Conference on Sustainable Energy Technologies (ICSET), 2010
The power source in micro-grid (MG) is either atmosphere dependent source (e.g. wind generator, solar etc.) or it will be small hydro or diesel turbine. This introduces power quality concerns in MG. It is because of small power number (MW per Hz.) due to limited size of the system and limited resources for system stability.

Improving the voltage profile of a medium voltage grid using distributed generation units

2013 15th European Conference on Power Electronics and Applications (EPE), 2013
In this paper the impact of photovoltaic (PV) system connected to the medium voltage distribution grid using three-phase three-level inverter and step-up transformer will be investigated. The PV inverter is capable to control active and reactive power independently.
