Modular multilevel converter capacitor voltage ripple reduction [PDF]

open access: possible, 2021
Aspects of capacitor voltage ripple reduction in modular multilevel converters are described herein. In one embodiment, a power converter system includes a modular multilevel converter (MMC) electrically coupled and configured to convert power between two different power systems.

Soft Switching Converter with Output Voltage Ripple Minimized

International Review of Electrical Engineering (IREE), 2017
In this study, a control technique combining the pulse amplitude modulation (PAM) and the pulse width modulation (PWM) is presented to minimize the output voltage ripple of the proposed converter. The proposed converter is a two-stage structure. The first stage, used to adjust the input voltage of the second stage, is an active clamp buck-boost ...

Pulsewidth control loop with low control voltage ripple

International Journal of Electronics Letters, 2013
A pulsewidth control loop (PWCL) with low control voltage ripple is proposed. The charge pump circuit with a charge-sharing circuit decreases the ripple of the control voltage, thus reducing the stability problem of the loop. The low control voltage ripple also reduces the jitter of the output clock.

Capacitor voltage ripple minimization in modular multilevel converters

2015 IEEE International Conference on Industrial Technology (ICIT), 2015
Modular multilevel converters provide high power quality, high reliability and flexible voltage and power scalability. However, large capacitor voltage ripple is one of the main drawbacks of this topology. This ripple reduces the capacitor lifetime and, due to the large capacitance required to limit it, increases the size and cost of the converter.

Voltage and Current Ripple in Rectifier Systems

IEEE Transactions on Applications and Industry, 1963
In a rectifier system with inductive load circuit the current fluctuations correspond to the time integral of the voltage absorbed by the inductance, while in a circuit with an L-C filter the current ripple is defined by the harmonic composition of the output voltage.

Winding scheme to reduce voltage and torque ripples

2016 XXII International Conference on Electrical Machines (ICEM), 2016
Voltage and torque ripples can reduce control precision and increase vibration and noise in electric vehicles, servo systems, or wind generators. To address this problem, we proposed a novel winding method in which three phase coils are wound around each tooth, with each coil having a different number of turns around a given tooth. The proposed winding

Evaluation of DC voltage ripple in three-phase PWM voltage source inverters

2017 IEEE 26th International Symposium on Industrial Electronics (ISIE), 2017
Determination of dc-link voltage switching ripple in three-phase PWM voltage source inverters (VSI) is important for the selection and design of the dc-link capacitor. In this paper the complete analysis of the dc-link voltage ripple is given for three-phase PWM VSIs, in case of dc source impedance and balanced load.

Voltage Ripple of Electrode Sensor in Electrolyte Flow

Journal of Communications Technology and Electronics, 2018
Voltage ripple of electrode sensor that moves relative to electrolyte (flow noise) is interpreted in agreement with experimental data using variations in the adsorption rate of oxygen on the electrode surface upon variations in the thickness of the diffusion layer. A relationship of electrode potential and flow velocity jumps is derived.

Calculations concerning voltage ripple of X-ray generators

Physics in Medicine and Biology, 1986
Formulae are given for absorbed dose, fluence and energy fluence of narrow X-ray beams generated by pulsating-potential X-ray generators with any waveform. A computer program has been written for calculating these and some other quantities, including mean energies, for particular waveforms. A new definition is suggested for the ripple correction factor
