Voltage Sag Studies in Distribution Networks—Part II: Voltage Sag Assessment

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2006
This paper is the second part of a joint paper aimed at predicting the voltage sag performance of distribution networks by estimating voltage sag indices. This part explores the characteristics of voltage sags caused by faults in a distribution network considering the effect of the protective devices installed in the network.

Overhead Transmission Lines Sag and Voltage Monitoring Method Based on Electrostatic Inverse Calculation

IEEE Transactions on Instrumentation and Measurement, 2022
Transmission line sag and voltage are key information to reflect the real-time operation state of power grid. Contactless measurement method has great advantages of no electrical contact, flexibility and mobility, but it is also vulnerable to ...

Voltage sags and their characterization

2010 International Conference on Power, Control and Embedded Systems, 2010
Voltage sags are short duration reductions in rms voltage caused by short circuits, overloads and starting of large motors. Voltage sag is much more of a global problem. For proper analysis and mitigation of voltage sag, their characterization is important. The magnitude and durations are main characteristics of voltage sag.

International Coordination for Voltage Sag Indices

2005/2006 PES TD, 2005
This paper proposes a general five-step framework for obtaining system indices for voltage dip performance. The framework is used to describe existing standards and ongoing work in standard-setting organizations (IEC, IEEE, CIGRE). Using the framework it becomes clear where the missing links are towards system-wide performance indices for voltage dips.

Impact of Voltage Sags on Electric-Vehicle Charger and Critical Voltage Sag Determination

IEEE Transactions on Power Delivery, 2016
This letter investigates the impact of voltage sags on electric-vehicle chargers and presents a method to determine the minimum symmetrical voltage sag during and after which chargers can both be kept stable. The proposed method is based on the constraints of pulse-width modulation (PWM), electric circuits, and small-signal stability.

Dynamic Improvement of a UPQC System Operating Under Grid Voltage Sag/Swell Disturbances

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems - II - Express Briefs
This brief proposes feed-forward control loops that accelerate the dynamic responses of both the dc-bus voltage and the compensated grid/input currents of a three-phase unified power quality conditioner (UPQC) under the occurrence of voltage sags/swells.

Mitigating voltage-sag and voltage-deviation problems in distribution networks using battery energy storage systems

, 2020
This paper proposes a framework for solving voltage-sag and voltage-deviation problems in distribution networks using battery energy storage systems (BESSs). The proposed framework is divided into two parts.

Voltage sag analysis with distributed generation

Proceedings of the International Conference & Workshop on Emerging Trends in Technology - ICWET '11, 2011
Distributed Generation (DG) generally refers to small scale generation located near the source of the load which it serves. Distributed generation have impacts on the performance system to which it is connected. DG can also provide power supply to the customers during the scheduled interruption.

An Advanced Control Strategy for a Weak Grid-Connected DG for Enhancing Voltage Support During Co-occurrence of Sag and Swell

IEEE transactions on power electronics
Numerous control strategies for voltage support are developed to encounter the voltage issues (sag, swell, low voltage, and high voltage). Yet, there is a significant gap in the voltage support concept, such as reduction of zero-sequence voltage along ...

An improved control strategy of virtual synchronous generator under symmetrical grid voltage sag

, 2020
The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) which mimics the synchronous generator enables the operation of inverter-interfaced distributed generations (DGs) more effectively.
