Nonlinear Transient Stability Analysis of Phased-Locked Loop-Based Grid-Following Voltage-Source Converters Using Lyapunov’s Direct Method

IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, 2021
In this article, using Lyapunov’s stability theorem, the transient stability conditions for a grid-following voltage-source converter (VSC) are found. These conditions take into account both the grid specifications and the VSC’s dynamics.

Comparison of voltage source converters and Z-source converters for electric vehicles

Emerging Materials Research, 2021
Voltage source and current source converters are used in industrial applications as either boost or buck converters for a defined power flow direction. These operational modes limit these converters to be utilized on their own in hybrid and electric vehicle (EV) applications.

Sliding-Mode Direct-Voltage Control of Voltage-Source Converters With LC Filters for Pulsed Power Loads

IEEE transactions on industrial electronics (1982. Print), 2021
This article proposes a direct-voltage controller, based on sliding modes, for regulating the output voltage of voltage-source converters (VSCs) equipped with LC filters.

Voltage source converter in a microgrid

International Journal of System Assurance Engineering and Management, 2018
Microgird with higher amount of renewable energy sources interconnected with power electronic devices has many challenges, such as loss of inertia, low short circuit ratio, difficulty in power sharing, problem of storage in an islanded condition, which needs to be handled properly.

Voltage source based voltage-to-time converter

2015 IEEE 58th International Midwest Symposium on Circuits and Systems (MWSCAS), 2015
Voltage-to-time converter (VTC) circuits are used as the core component of single-slope analog to digital converters (ADCs). These VTC circuits have traditionally depended on the use of a constant current source as part of their implementation in order to have good linearity.

Adaptive control of a Voltage Source Converter

CCECE 2010, 2010
This work presents a new trajectory tracking control strategy for a three phase Voltage Source Converter (VSC). The design is based on a third order nonlinear model of the VSC expressed in the dq frame. By suitable approximation of the dc voltage dynamics, the system is transformable to a LTI form by a nonlinear change of state coordinates.

Controllers for voltage source converters

2013 International Conference on Emerging Trends in Communication, Control, Signal Processing and Computing Applications (C2SPCA), 2013
The power system is dependent on control of power and voltage for its stability and reliability. Voltage Source Converter (VSC) technology has the advantage of being able to almost instantly change its working point within its capability limit. Due to this advantage, VSC can be used to support the system to maintain active power or output voltage ...

Grid-Connected Wind-Solar Cogeneration Using Back-to-Back Voltage-Source Converters

IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy, 2020
This paper introduces a new topology, yet simple and efficient, for a grid-connected wind-solar cogeneration system. A permanent magnet synchronous generator-based full-scale wind turbine is interconnected to the utility-grid via back-to-back voltage ...

Voltage source converter in high voltage applications: multilevel versus two-level converters

9th IET International Conference on AC and DC Power Transmission (ACDC 2010), 2010
This paper presents a comparison between two-level and multilevel converters for medium-voltage applications. The comparison focuses on issues such as waveform quality, voltage and current stresses on the switching devices, switching frequency per device, and conversion losses (mainly, on-state and switching losses).

Nonlinear Modeling and Analysis of Grid-Connected Voltage-Source Converters Under Voltage Dips

IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics, 2020
In power systems, voltage-source converters (VSCs) are gradually replacing traditional devices and dramatically changing power system dynamic behavior, as the VSC’s intrinsic high-order nonlinearity and multiple time-scale characteristics.
