Voltage Stability Improvement Using Voltage Stability Index Optimization

2020 International Conference on Power, Energy and Innovations (ICPEI), 2020
Voltage stability improvement using line voltage stability index based on optimal power flow (OPF) in power systems is presented in this work. Line voltage stability index (LVSI) traditionally adopted to identify the most critical line in the system where its value is in the range of 0 (no load) and 1 (voltage collapse) has been applied as part of the ...

On-Line Voltage Stability Monitoring

2018 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (ISCAS), 2018
This paper reviews the basic assumptions of real-time voltage instability monitoring, based on impedance matching and compares it with a new method based on either phasor measurement units (PMU), or distance relays. It is shown that the limitations associated with impedance matching assumptions are overcome by the proposed method, which can accurately ...

Study on system voltage oscillation and voltage stability control

2012 10th International Power & Energy Conference (IPEC), 2012
This paper analyzes system voltage oscillation and proposes a new systematic method for voltage stability control in the power system. Recently, renewable energy and distributed power generation have been introduced into power systems because of worldwide societal interest in environmental problems.

Stability of Voltage Regulators

Transactions of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers, 1950
THE PRESENCE in many voltage regulator circuits of nonlinear control elements has prevented a complete mathematical treatment of the subject. However, Liapounoff's theory1 ofthe stability of dynamic systems affords a solution to the problem of stability of electric circuits subjected to small displacements from equilibrium.

Voltage stability preventive control using a new voltage stability index

2004 International Conference on Power System Technology, 2004. PowerCon 2004., 2005
Effective voltage control schemes have been brought to attention in a considerable number of studies, as power system loads are located farther away from power plants and reactive power losses have tended to increase due to the heavier power flow with high load growth and long distance transmission.

A Review of Voltage Stability Assessment Techniques with an Improved Voltage Stability Indicator

International Journal of Emerging Electric Power Systems, 2015
Abstract A blackout can take place in entire power system or a part of the system due to extreme voltage instability (voltage collapse) that can appear abruptly. Instability prediction and continuous monitoring of the power system performance is, therefore, known exigent.

On voltage stability regions and voltage secondary control

PowerTech Budapest 99. Abstract Records. (Cat. No.99EX376), 2003
This paper presents some new results on the geometry of the reactive load-flow problem. These results have implications in order to asses the system margin to the voltage collapse and to design a secondary voltage control aimed to avoid the voltage collapse.

Radial Voltage Stability

TENCON '91. Region 10 International Conference on EC3-Energy, Computer, Communication and Control Systems, 2005
Radial voltage stability poses problems for power system planners and operators. This paper presents methods and aids which can meet the quite distinct needs of both planners and operators, with an emphasis on the practical aspects of the problem. An actual disturbance is described in which the first phase was due to system voltage instability, and ...

A Voltage Stabilizer Circuit

Review of Scientific Instruments, 1937
A new voltage stabilizer circuit is described. The circuit is of the bridge type wherein an essentially constant current is maintained in the output resistor. The particular feature of the circuit is the elimination of transients in the output voltage due to changes in emission of the cathode of the type 78 stabilizer tube.
