Static Voltage Stability Assessment of Electricity Networks Using an Enhanced Line-Based Index

open access: yesEnergies
High penetration of renewable energy sources complicates static voltage stability assessment, as conventional line-based indices are typically derived under restrictive assumptions, such as neglecting voltage-angle differences or decoupling active and ...

Analysing the significance of small conformational changes and low occupancy states in serial crystallographic data

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This protocol paper outlines methods to establish the success of a time‐resolved serial crystallographic experiment, by means of statistical analysis of timepoint data in reciprocal space and models in real space. We show how to amplify the signal from excited states to visualise structural changes in successful experiments.

On the Properties of the Power Systems Nodal Admittance Matrix

open access: yes, 2017
This letter provides conditions determining the rank of the nodal admittance matrix, and arbitrary block partitions of it, for connected AC power networks with complex admittances.

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Comparative Analysis of Voltage Stability in Radial Power Distribution Networks Under Critical Loading Conditions and Diverse Load Models

open access: yesElectricity
Modern power distribution systems are increasingly stressed as they operate closer to their voltage stability limits, driven by growing electricity demand, complex load behaviors, and the evolving structure of power networks. Radial distribution systems,

Why human connection is the true metric of research success

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Human‐centred mentorship can be shaped by mentor attributes, actions, intrinsic drive and career ambition. Drawing on reflections across Singapore and France, as well as workshop insights from FEBS‐IUBMB ENABLE 2024, this article shows that human‐centred mentorship creates the conditions for sustainable growth, well‐being and retention in research ...

An on-line power/voltage stability index for multi-infeed HVDC systems

open access: yesJournal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy, 2019
High-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission is playing an increasingly important role in modern power systems, and the resulted power/voltage stability issue has raised widespread concern. This paper presents an on-line power/voltage stability index (

Identifying gene expression signatures for risk stratification of postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy in colorectal cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A novel signature integrating genome‐wide analysis with clinical factors predicts recurrence in stage II colorectal cancer and enables a new risk stratification to guide postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Clinical risk stratification for postoperative recurrence in patients with pathological stage II (pStage II) colorectal cancer (CRC) is essential ...

Investigating early warning signs of oscillatory instability in simulated phasor measurements

open access: yes, 2013
This paper shows that the variance of load bus voltage magnitude in a small power system test case increases monotonically as the system approaches a Hopf bifurcation. This property can potentially be used as a method for monitoring oscillatory stability
