Optimal perioperative fluid management: What is the strategy? [PDF]

open access: yesSerbian Journal of Anesthesia and Intensive Therapy, 2016
Fluid therapy is a core concept in the management of perioperative patients for maintenance of intravascular volume and organ perfusion. The aim of perioperative fluid therapy is to keep patients at all times in the optimal volume loading, due to both ...

Determination of gas volume trapped in a closed fluid system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1971
Technique involves extracting known volume of fluid and measuring system before and after extraction, volume of entrapped gas is then computed. Formula derived from ideal gas laws is basis of this method.

Conserved structural motifs in PAS, LOV, and CRY proteins regulate circadian rhythms and are therapeutic targets

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cryptochrome and PAS/LOV proteins play intricate roles in circadian clocks where they act as both sensors and mediators of protein–protein interactions. Their ubiquitous presence in signaling networks has positioned them as targets for small‐molecule therapeutics. This review provides a structural introduction to these protein families.

A Lumped-Parameter Subject-Specific Model of Blood Volume Response to Fluid Infusion

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2016
This paper presents a lumped-parameter model that can reproduce blood volume response to fluid infusion. The model represents the fluid shift between the intravascular and interstitial compartments as the output of a hypothetical feedback controller ...

Numerical study of the boiling heat transfer characteristics of bluff body quenching in cylindrical tube

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2022
The present study numerically investigates the characteristics of the forced immersion quenching widely used in material manufacturing processes. The numerical simulation considers the boiling heat transfer occurring at the surface of the hot cylindrical

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Direct numerical simulation of variable surface tension flows using a Volume-of-Fluid method

open access: yes, 2017
We develop a general methodology for the inclusion of variable surface tension into a Volume-of-Fluid based Navier-Stokes solver. This new numerical model provides a robust and accurate method for computing the surface gradients directly by finding the ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.
