Content Analysis of the Diagnostic Proposition Risk of Excessive Fluid Volume in Hemodialysis Patients

open access: yesRevista da Escola de Enfermagem da USP, 2021
Objective: To analyze the content of the diagnostic proposition risk of excessive fluid volume in patients undergoing hemodialysis. Method: Content validity study, with 48 judges who assessed the content of the diagnostic proposition risk of excessive ...

Sedimentation of finite-size spheres in quiescent and turbulent environments

open access: yes, 2015
Sedimentation of a dispersed solid phase is widely encountered in applications and environmental flows, yet little is known about the behavior of finite-size particles in homogeneous isotropic turbulence.

A fractional volume of fluid method for free boundary dynamics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The volume of fluid (VOF) technique is presented as a simple and efficient means for numerically treating free boundaries embedded in a calculational mesh of Eulerian or Arbitrary-Lagrangian-Eulerian cells. It is particularly useful because it uses a minimum of stored information, treats intersecting free boundaries automatically, and can be readily ...

Inhibiting stearoyl‐CoA desaturase suppresses bone metastatic prostate cancer by modulating cellular stress, mTOR signaling, and DNA damage response

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bone metastasis in prostate cancer (PCa) patients is a clinical hurdle due to the poor understanding of the supportive bone microenvironment. Here, we identify stearoyl‐CoA desaturase (SCD) as a tumor‐promoting enzyme and potential therapeutic target in bone metastatic PCa.

Resolved simulations of submarine avalanches with a simple soft-sphere / immersed boundary method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Physical mechanisms at the origin of the transport of solid particles in a fluid are still a matter of debate in the physics community. Yet, it is well known that these processes play a fundamental role in many natural configurations, such submarines ...

Immersed boundary methods for numerical simulation of confined fluid and plasma turbulence in complex geometries: a review

open access: yes, 2014
Immersed boundary methods for computing confined fluid and plasma flows in complex geometries are reviewed. The mathematical principle of the volume penalization technique is described and simple examples for imposing Dirichlet and Neumann boundary ...

Flowfield-dependent variant method for moving-boundary problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A novel numerical scheme using the combination of flowfield-dependent variation method and arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian method is developed. This method is a mixed explicit–implicit numerical scheme, and its implicitness is dependent on the physical ...

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Numerical Investigation of Cylindrical Water Droplets Subjected to Air Shock Loading at a High Weber Number

open access: yesFluids
This work is devoted to the computational investigation of the deformation and breakup of cylindrical water bodies in the high-speed airflow behind incident shock waves.
