Clinical and echocardiographic response to volume expansion in hypotensive preterm infants: a pilot observational study [PDF]
ObjectiveTo describe the short-term clinical and echocardiographic effects of a first volume expansion in hypotensive preterm infants during the first 24 h of life.Study designSingle-center retrospective observational pilot study including preterm ...

Induction of Adipogenesis by External Volume Expansion [PDF]
External volume expansion by suction is used to prepare the recipient site for fat grafting by increasing its compliance and vascularity. The authors previously developed a mouse model for external volume expansion and demonstrated its pro-proliferative and angiogenic effects. Increased thickness of the subcutaneous tissue was also observed. This study

The influence of exercise volume and posture on exercise‐induced plasma volume expansion [PDF]
Acute high‐intensity interval exercise is known to expand plasma volume 24 h after exercise. Upright exercise posture plays a role in expanding plasma volume by influencing lymphatic outflow and redistributing albumin while supine exercise does not.

Blood volume and chronic kidney disease in heart failure – Can volume expansion help balance the Cardio‐Renal Axis for better clinical outcomes? [PDF]
Intravascular volume is largely regulated by the kidneys but how differences in intravascular volume profiles interact with chronic kidney disease (CKD) to influence outcomes in chronic heart failure (HF) has not been explored.

Mechanisms of Action of External Volume Expansion Devices [PDF]
External volume expansion by suction has been proposed to improve the survival of fat grafting by preparing the recipient site. In previous experimental work, external volume expansion demonstrated the capacity to stimulate cell proliferation, vessel remodeling, and adipogenesis.

The use of volume expansion in preterm infants
SummaryThere is no consensus of opinion regarding the appropriate use of volume expansion in the sick preterm infant. Recent evidence suggests that excessive volume expansion may increase mortality in this group. We determined the use of volume expansion in non‐surgical preterm infants (<30 weeks gestation) among neonatal consultants in the West ...

Exercise stroke volume relative to plasma-volume expansion
The effects of plasma-volume (PV) expansion on stroke volume (SV) (CO2 rebreathing) during submaximal exercise were determined. Intravenous infusion of 403 +/- 21 ml of a 6% dextran solution before exercise in the upright position increased SV 11% (i.e., 130 +/- 6 to 144 +/- 5 ml; P less than 0.05) in untrained males (n = 7). Further PV expansion (i.e.

Novel Methods for Predicting Fluid Responsiveness in Critically Ill Patients—A Narrative Review
In patients with acute circulatory failure, fluid administration represents a first-line therapeutic intervention for improving cardiac output. However, only approximately 50% of patients respond to fluid infusion with a significant increase in cardiac ...
