The importance of human brown adipose tissue volume

Nature Reviews Endocrinology, 2021
A new study investigates brown adipose tissue (BAT) volume in young, metabolically healthy adults. The focus is on the associations between BAT volume and BMI, waist circumference, whole-body adipose tissue mass, visceral adipose tissue mass and cold-induced BAT activity. Of note, the reported associations differed in men and women.

The importance of intracellular volume in the control of vascular volume

Medical Hypotheses, 1977
The effect of change in extracellular (interstitial) volume on vascular volume (VV) is mediated through interstitial pressure. Since the effect of swollen or shrunken cells on interstitial pressure should be identical to that of changes in interstitial volume on interstitial pressure, it would be appropriate to consider that intracellular volume (ICV ...

Efficacy of neck dissection: Are surgical volumes important?

The Laryngoscope, 2009
Abstract Objectives/Hyphothesis: Surgical volumes have been shown in many fields to reflect expertise and to be associated with improved clinical outcomes. We sought to test similar hypotheses that neck dissection is a volume‐sensitive procedure wherein the number of lymph nodes harvested and ...

The importance of volume in regulating gastric emptying

Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, 1991
There is now substantive evidence that the provision of exogenous carbohydrate at high rates (1-2 g. min-1) can enhance performance during prolonged exercise. This finding has revived research into the factors determining the rate of exogenous carbohydrate delivery during exercise.

Estimation of bole volume by importance sampling

Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 1986
A sampling methodology to provide an unbiased estimate of bole volume is introduced, with specific regard to its incorporation as an alternative to detailed dendrometry in a 3P sampling framework. In a demonstration of the technique to estimate merchantable volume in a 91-tree population, the average relative sampling error was 7.4%.

Platelet Volume Measurements: The Importance Of Anticoagulation

Thrombosis and Haemostasis, 1981
Recent advances in electrical cell sizing have made mean platelet volume (MPV) routinely available in most clinical laboratories. To study the importance of anticoagulation on platelet size stability, blood was collected in 7 different anticoagulants and stored at room temperature for up to 8 hours.

Sonographic evaluation of uterine volume and its clinical importance

Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology Research, 2016
AbstractAimThe study was conducted to: (i) measure uterine volume in adolescent and perimenopausal age groups with normal pelvic findings and in women with pathological uteri scheduled for surgery, and (ii) utilize uterine volume as a parameter for the management of perimenopausal women scheduled for vaginal hysterectomy.MethodsData of 800 clinically ...
