Diagnostic Value of ‘Closing Volume’ in Comparison to ‘Airway Resistance/Lung Volume Plot’
Respiration, 1974Narrowing or closing of small airways is shown in healthy young subjects, young patients with a history of obstructive airway disease in an asymptomatic period at the time of study, and in older chronic bronchitic patients with bronchial obstruction.

High and Low Volume Resistance Training and Vascular Function
International Journal of Sports Medicine, 2007The aim was to examine the influence of high and low volume whole-body circuit weight training on forearm reactive hyperemic blood flow, venous capacitance and outflow in young individuals. Thirty-five individuals (age: 22 +/- 1.89 years) participated in an 8 station circuit performed 3 days/week for 5 weeks.

Influence of lung volume on oxygen cost of resistive breathing
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1986We examined the relationship between the O2 cost of breathing (VO2 resp) and lung volume at constant load, ventilation, work rate, and pressure-time product in five trained normal subjects breathing through an inspiratory resistance at functional residual capacity (FRC) and when lung volume (VL) was increased to 37 +/- 2% (mean +/- SE) of inspiratory ...

Effects of lung volume on collateral and airways resistance in man
Journal of Applied Physiology, 1979The effects of changing lung volume (VL) on collateral resistance (Rcoll) and total airways resistance (Raw) were compared in six young volunteers. At functional residual capacity (FRC) = 55% total lung capacity (TLC), mean Rcoll was 4,664 +/- 1,518 (SE) cmH2O/(l/s) and mean Raw was 1.57 +/- 0.11 (SE) cmH2O/l/s).

Volume dependence of the electrical resistivity of sodium
Journal of Physics F: Metal Physics, 1982The volume dependence of the electrical resistivity of sodium is calculated for four compressed lattices, whose volumes are 0.9, 0.8, 0.7 and 0.6 of the normal volume. The empirical pseudopotential of Kaveh and Wiser (1972) is used for the electron-phonon interaction and the force constants in the Born-von Karman force constant model are determined ...

Volume, Flow, and Resistance Assessment in Asthma
1993The assessment of lung function in the asthmatic patient has the following main targets: 1. Evaluation of the degree and prevalent location of lung function impairment during symptom-free periods, these being not available in all patients and depending on asthma definition 2.

[Comparative methodologic studies of closing volume and increase in airway resistance volumes].
Zeitschrift fur Erkrankungen der Atmungsorgane, 1992The early recognition of obstructive lung diseases plays an important role in the subsequent therapy; the closing volume, determined by means of single-breath oxygen test has been established as a suitable parameter. This technique, however, has not succeeded as a routine method due to prohibitive costs.
