Pancreatic Mucinous Cystic Neoplasm Size Using CT Volumetry, Spherical and Ellipsoid Formulas: Validation Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Context The accuracy for determining pancreatic cyst volume with commonly used spherical and ellipsoid methods is unknown. The role of CT volumetry in volumetric assessment of pancreatic cysts needs to be explored.

Value of MRI Outcomes for Preventive and Early‐Stage Trials in Spinocerebellar Ataxias 1 and 3

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To examine the value of MRI outcomes as endpoints for preventive and early‐stage trials of two polyglutamine spinocerebellar ataxias (SCAs). Methods A cohort of 100 participants (23 SCA1, 63 SCA3, median Scale for the Assessment and Rating of Ataxia (SARA) score = 5, 42% preataxic, and 14 gene‐negative controls) was scanned at 3T up ...

Manual and semi-automated computed tomography volumetry significantly overestimates the right liver lobe graft weight: a single-center study with adult living liver donors

open access: yesDiagnostic and Interventional Radiology
PURPOSE: Preoperative evaluation of donor liver volume is indispensable in living donor liver transplantation to ensure sufficient residual liver and graft-to-recipient weight ratio. This study aims to evaluate the accuracy of two computed tomography (CT)

Comparison of automated three-dimensional volumetry with manual volumetry for graft evaluation before living donor liver transplant - A prospective study

open access: yesJournal of Current Research in Scientific Medicine
Background: The aim of the study was to compare the accuracy and efficacy of automated three-dimensional (3D) software-aided computed tomography (CT) volumetry and manual CT volumetry in calculating the graft weight of living-donor livers for liver ...

Journey to the other side of the brain: asymmetry in patients with chronic mild or moderate traumatic brain injury

open access: yesConcussion, 2023
Aim: Patients with chronic mild or moderate traumatic brain injury have some regions of brain atrophy (including cerebral white matter) but even more regions of abnormal brain enlargement (including other cerebral regions). Hypothesis: Ipsilateral injury

A Depolarizing Leak in Sodium Bicarbonate Cotransporter NBCe1 Causes Brain Edema

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives SLC4A4 encodes electrogenic sodium bicarbonate cotransporter NBCe1, prominently expressed in kidney and brain. Recessive loss‐of‐function variants in SLC4A4 cause proximal renal tubular acidosis, no brain edema. In the brain, NBCe1 is expressed by astrocytes, where it regulates pH and mediates astrocyte volume changes.

Anti‐CD19 CAR T Cells in Autoimmune Encephalitis: Inflammation Controlled, Neurodegeneration Unchecked?

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Just recently, successful chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T cell therapy was reported in the first patient with refractory, anti‐diacylglycerol lipase alpha (DAGLA) antibody‐mediated autoimmune encephalitis, achieving partial clinical remission.

Automated liver volumetry and hepatic steatosis quantification with magnetic resonance imaging proton density fat fraction

open access: yesJournal of the Formosan Medical Association
Background: Preoperative imaging evaluation of liver volume and hepatic steatosis for the donor affects transplantation outcomes. However, computed tomography (CT) for liver volumetry and magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) for hepatic steatosis are ...

Early-Stage MRI Volumetric Differences in White Matter Hyperintensity and Temporal Lobe Volumes between Autopsy-Confirmed Alzheimer’s Disease, Cerebral Small Vessel Disease, and Mixed Pathologies

open access: yesDementia and Geriatric Cognitive Disorders Extra, 2022
Introduction: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) and cerebral small vessel disease (CVSD) both contribute to age-related cognitive decline but can be difficult to clinically distinguish at early stages. At mild cognitive impairment (MCI), we investigated brain MRI

The correlation between preoperative volumetry and real graft weight: comparison of two volumetry programs [PDF]

open access: yesAnnals of Surgical Treatment and Research, 2017
Liver volumetry is a vital component in living donor liver transplantation to determine an adequate graft volume that meets the metabolic demands of the recipient and at the same time ensures donor safety. Most institutions use preoperative contrast-enhanced CT image-based software programs to estimate graft volume.
