Partial phenotyping in voluntary blood donors of Gujarat State

open access: yesAsian Journal of Transfusion Science, 2016
Partial phenotyping of voluntary blood donors has vital role in transfusion practice, population genetic study and in resolving legal issues. The Rh blood group is one of the most complex and highly immunogenic blood group known in humans. The Kell system, discovered in 1946, is the third most potent system at triggering hemolytic transfusion reactions

Psychosocial characteristics of blood donors influence their voluntary nonmedical lapse [PDF]

open access: yesTransfusion, 2018
BACKGROUND Approximately 10% of Dutch donors lapse yearly. Common reasons are nonvoluntary medical issues (e.g., low hemoglobin), reaching the upper age limit, and voluntary (e.g., own request, nonresponse). Little is known about predictors of voluntary noncompliance (lapses). Psychosocial

Circulating microRNA signatures of cachexia and cancer in Canis familiaris as a comparative oncology model for human disease

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Circulating microRNAs as biomarkers of cachexia and sex‐specific cancer in senior dogs. In 25 client‐owned dogs, four circulating miRNAs (miR‐15a, miR‐15b, miR‐16, miR‐140) were downregulated in cachexia, with miR‐16 the strongest individual biomarker (AUC = 0.899).

Analysis of the reasons for deferral of prospective blood donors in a Tertiary Care Hospital in North India

open access: yesJournal of Applied Hematology, 2015
Background: Blood donor deferral is a painful and sad experience for the donor, organizer as well as screening doctors. The rate and reasons of deferral differ from region to region and center to center. The shortage of safe blood donors is frequent, and

Tumour‐proximal deep serum proteomics identifies biomarkers associated with ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
New biomarkers are needed for early ovarian cancer detection. Ovarian (tumour‐proximal) and peripheral vein serum from healthy women and patients with benign or malignant tumours underwent nanoparticle‐enriched deep proteomics. Ovarian serum yielded more protein identifications and revealed tumour‐reflective signatures.

A rare case of Bm (Bweak) phenotype detected in a healthy blood donor from Eastern India

open access: yesGlobal Journal of Transfusion Medicine, 2023
A 52-year-old male repeats voluntary blood donor donated at our blood center for the first time. Historical blood group was O, Rh (D) positive. Initial blood grouping was done on the fully automated immunohematology analyzer using column agglutination ...

Recruitment and Retention of Voluntary Blood Donors Through Electronic Communication [PDF]

open access: yesActa Informatica Medica, 2013
Dear Editor, Recruitment of voluntary blood donors is an important task. Human blood is an essential element of the human life and there are no substitutes for it (1). Studies have proved that voluntary blood donation enhances safe blood transfusion (2) when compared to replacement blood donation. The need for blood is growing day by day as a result

Molecular characterization of covRS mutations in M1UK Streptococcus pyogenes

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Group A Streptococcus (GAS) acquires covRS mutations driving a hypervirulent bacterial state, frequently associated with invasive disease‐like necrotizing fasciitis. We demonstrate that the newly emerged M1UK GAS lineage can also acquire these mutations.
