Coupling of satellite radar data and Volunteered Geographic Information (VGI) in an innovative approach aimed at supporting landslide inventories development [PDF]

open access: closed, 2019
After major geo-hydrological disasters, the rapid detection of both location and extension of the areas struck by floods and landslides is essential to manage recovery operations. In these cases, one of the most important tools required by decision-makers is a georeferenced map showing the affected areas.

The context of outdoor walking: A classification of user‐generated routes

open access: yesThe Geographical Journal, Volume 189, Issue 3, Page 485-500, September 2023., 2023
Short Abstract Analysing about 4 million user‐generated walking routes produced in Great Britain, we characterise routes combining primary attributes and contextual information, including land cover and points of interest. Second, by applying unsupervised learning to this data model, we produce the Walking Route Classification.

MapSafe: A complete tool for achieving geospatial data sovereignty

open access: yesTransactions in GIS, Volume 27, Issue 6, Page 1680-1698, September 2023., 2023
Abstract Sensitive geographic data are invaluable assets for the people to whom they belong and their disclosure should be decided by the sovereign data owner (SDO). Due to several high‐profile data breaches and business models that commercialize user data, the need for new approaches to geoprivacy and data sovereignty has grown.
