von Bertalanffy growth model in a random environment

Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, 1999
The well-known von Bertalanffy growth model for describing age-length relationship is formulated in a randomly fluctuating environment. The fluctuations in the system are assumed to be described by a Gaussian white noise stochastic process. The resulting model, in terms of a stochastic differential equation, is solved analytically.

The scope and limitations of Von Bertalanffy’s systems theory

South African Journal of Philosophy, 2002
The Systems Theory is a complex theory (yet it is not identical to recent theories of complexity). The intention of this qualification is to demonstrate that the concept of a system is a complex basic concept of scientific thinking. This means that it is defined in terms of various elementary basic concepts brought together in its explication.

Two‐step versus joint analysis of Von Bertalanffy function

Journal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, 1999
IntroductionAnimal growth has been modelled using several mathematical functions (Logistic, Von Bertalanffy, Gompertz, etc.). These functions are described by a reduced number of parameters. In some cases, these parameters are assigned a biological interpretation (adult weight, maturing rate, etc.) and so the breeding goal can be closely related to the

Ludwig Von Bertalanffy’s Contributions to Theoretical Psychology

1988
This paper discusses the contributions to theoretical psychology of the late Professor Ludwig von Bertalanffy, a prominent biologist. Von Bertalanffy proposed open systems theory to explain life phenomena. Open systems, living organisms are examples of such systems, do not follow the second law of classical thermodynamics.

Hans Jonas’ ‘Gnosticism and Modern Nihilism’, and Ludwig von Bertalanffy

Philosophy & Social Criticism, 2012
‘Gnosticism and Modern Nihilism’ (published in Social Research, 1952) is indeed one of Hans Jonas’ most famous essays, to which its author reserved very deep attention during his philosophical career. As a former pupil of Martin Heidegger and Rudolf Bultmann, Jonas started to deal with religious topics, and specifically with Gnosticism, from the very ...
