A Tutorial on Design Analysis Using von Mises Stress in Random Vibration Environments

open access: yesThe Shock and Vibration Digest, 2000
The von Mises stress is often used as the metric for evaluating design margins, particularly for structures made of ductile materials. While computing the von Mises stress distribution in a structural system due to a deterministic load condition may be straightforward, difficulties arise when considering random vibration environments.

Enhancing Sensitivity across Scales with Highly Sensitive Hall Effect‐Based Auxetic Tactile Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
Herein, a tactile sensor based on hall‐effect sensors with an auxetic structure, called Hall effect‐based auxetic tactile sensor (HEATS), is proposed. The change in magnetism resulting from the deformation of the auxetic structure is utilized for sensing.

Finite element analysis of the effect of residual lateral wall volume on postoperative stability in intertrochanteric fractures

open access: yesJournal of Orthopaedic Surgery and Research
Background Lateral wall fractures represent crucial risk factors for postoperative internal fixation failure in intertrochanteric femoral fractures. However, no consensus exists on the type of lateral wall fracture requiring interventional management ...

Study on adhesive strength criteria under combined stresses and its adhesive thickness dependency

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2014
In this report, adhesive strength criteria are investigated experimentally and analytically. The cylindrical butt joint specimen and the round bar butt joint specimen with various thickness (30~1000μm) of adhesive layer are subjected to various combined ...

Effect of Fillet Radius of the Shaft On Von Mises Stress

open access: yesInternational Journal of Multidisciplinary Research and Analysis
Circular components called shafts transfer force from one area of a machine to another. The way the components function together is altered when a tip is placed on a shaft. It is frequently used in engineering designs to ensure that the entire structure is strong, distribute stress, and increase wear resistance. It has smooth edges.

Self‐Sensing Artificial‐Muscle‐Empowered Humanlike Perception, Interaction, and Positioning

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, Volume 7, Issue 3, March 2025.
The proposed self‐sensorized artificial muscle (SSAM) can sense its length change as small as 0.01 mm via a seamlessly integrated multi‐segment induction coil. The SSAM provides accurate length information regardless of its loadings, driving pressure, or muscle design, adequate for robust data‐driven feedback control.

Numerical modeling of a prototype cardiac assist device by implementing fluid-structure interaction

open access: yesArtery Research, 2018
The purpose of this study is to simulate the blood flow in a 2D axisymmetric model for the aorta assisted with a type of cardiac assist device in which the balloon part is surrounding the ascending aorta and can pump the blood flow by its inflation ...
