Vortex induced vibration of tall buildings
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1992Abstract For a tall building of which aspect ratio is larger than 8, the resonant velocity of vortex induced vibration or the onset velocity of galloping can be within the design wind velocity. In this paper, the vortex induced vibration and the galloping of tall buildings with aspect ratio, H/√BD=10 with side ratios, D/B = 1 2 to 3 are ...

Reduction of Stack Vortex Induced Vibrations
Volume 3: Design and Analysis, 2013A stack installation experienced vortex-induced vibrations (VIV) while in-service. The magnitude of the vibrations was severe enough that cracking in the welds at the stack bases was experienced shortly after their installation. Initially, straight strakes were placed on the stacks, based on field serviceability, per API 560.

Vortex Induced Vibrations of Finned Cylinders
Journal of Hydrodynamics, 2008This article presents the results of a numerical simulation on the vortex induced vibration of various finned cylinders at low Reynolds number. The non-dimensional, incompressible Navier-Stokes equations and continuity equation were adopted to simulate the fluid around the cylinder.

Vortex-induced vibrations of a pivoted cylinder
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 2005Much of the research into vortex-induced vibrations has been dedicated to the problem of a cylinder vibrating transverse to a fluid flow ($Y$-motion). There are very few papers studying the more practical case of vibration in two degrees of freedom ($XY$-motion), or the case where there is variation of amplitude along the span of a body.

A Model Extension for Vortex-Induced Vibrations
2019The paper presents free-vibration wind tunnel tests performed at WIST Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel at Ruhr-Universitat Bochum (Germany) on a 3D aeroelastic cylindrical model with circular cross-section. The aim of the tests is to validate a model extension to the original spectral method developed by Vickery & Basu, able to calculate the maximum ...

Vortex-Induced Vibration of Deepwater Risers
Offshore Technology Conference, 1998Abstract This paper presents an overview of deepwater riser vortex-induced vibration analysis, including vortex-induced vibration prediction, testing considerations, and suppression device testing and selection. Both single and multiple riser configurations are addressed. For each subject the philosophy and thoughts

Vortex induced vibration of circular cylinder
Journal of Wind Engineering and Industrial Aerodynamics, 1993Abstract The flow field around a vortex induced vibrating cylinder is analyzed by the numerical simulation using the discrete vortex model. When the vortex shedding locks in the vibration, the separated shear layers sway in a body like a pendulum.
