Optimal Energy Harvesting From Vortex-Induced Vibrations of Cables [PDF]

open access: yesVolume 6: Ocean Space Utilization; Ocean Renewable Energy, 2016
We propose to use flexible cables instead of rigid rods in devices extracting energy from Vortex-Induced Vibrations (VIVs). We use a linear equation of motion for the structure coupled with a nonlinear wake oscillator and numerical tools to simulate the VIVs of hanging strings/cables.

Crack‐Growing Interlayer Design for Deep Crack Propagation and Ultrahigh Sensitivity Strain Sensing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A crack‐growing semi‐cured polyimide interlayer enabling deep cracks for ultrahigh sensitivity in low‐strain regimes is presented. The sensor achieves a gauge factor of 100 000 at 2% strain and detects subtle deformations such as nasal breathing, highlighting potential for minimally obstructive biomedical and micromechanical sensing applications ...

Quantifying Spin Defect Density in hBN via Raman and Photoluminescence Analysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An all‐optical method is presented for quantifying the density of boron vacancy spin defects in hexagonal boron nitride (hBN). By correlating Raman and photoluminescence signals with irradiation fluence, defect‐induced Raman modes are identified and established an relationship linking optical signatures to absolute defect densities. This enables direct

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

Investigation of the Influence of Spoiler and Maintenance Track on Second-Order Heaving Vortex-Induced Vibration

open access: yesInfrastructures
To improve the guidance for the wind tunnel test, this study initially conducted thorough research on the wind environment at a coastal bridge site to ascertain the characteristics of the wind parameters varying along the bridge span.

Understanding and predicting vortex-induced vibrations [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Fluid Mechanics, 2009
Vortex-induced vibration of solid structures has been known since ancient times, and remains a very important problem of fluid mechanics. Experimental studies of the vortex-induced vibration of circular cylinders have provided many fundamental insights.

Dual‐Functional Li2B4O7 Coating on Carbon Fibers for Enhanced Li+ Transport and Stability in Sulfide All‐Solid‐State Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A dual‐functional Li2B4O7 coating on carbon fibers is designed to resolve the critical interfacial degradation in sulfide all‐solid‐state batteries. The conformal layer acts as a physical barrier to suppress parasitic reactions while its unique dielectric properties simultaneously facilitate Li+ transport.
