Caustics of the vortex beams generated by vortex lenses and vortex axicons

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2020
In this work, the propagation of vortex beams is treated using a catastrophe theory approach. Analytic expressions are deduced to describe caustic surfaces produced by vortex lenses and vortex axicons. The obtained analytics allow us to explain the formation of the shadow region along the optical axis for vortex beams using ...

Terahertz vortex generation methods in rippled and vortex plasmas

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2019
Terahertz vortices have strong potential for many applications such as imaging and sensing in medicine, biomedical engineering, rotations of molecules, quantum condensation, optical tweezers, manipulation of electron beams, and communications. However, owing to recent developments, there has been less research about vortex generation in the terahertz ...

Effects of Vortex-Vortex Interaction in a Compressor Cascade With Vortex Generators

Volume 2A: Turbomachinery, 2015
This paper presents a numerical investigation to explore the effects of vortex generators on a high speed compressor cascade. Secondary flow effects like the corner separation vortex have an influence on the performance of a compressor cascade such as leading to increased losses.

Generation of vortex lightbeams

MIPPR 2019: Multispectral Image Acquisition, Processing, and Analysis, 2020
Generally, the vortex lightwaves are beams that propagates helically along an axis. In an optical vortex, light is twisted. Due to their twisting property, the light at the position of the axis cancels each other. If the vortex is projected onto a plane, its image looks like a halo, with a dark area without light in the middle.

Modification of a wing tip vortex by vortex generators

Aerospace Science and Technology, 2005
Abstract The vortex wake hazard associated with transport aircraft is well known. One strategy for its alleviation is to alter the near field wake topology to distribute circulation over an increased area and reduce the consequent rolling moment on a following aircraft encountering the wake.

Vortex Ring Generator

1998
Abstract : The U.S. Marine Corps Joint Nonlethal Weapons Directorate tasked the U.S. Army to demonstrate a means of quickly converting the Navy MK19-3 automatic 40-mm grenade launcher between lethal and nonlethal modes of operation. The Army Research Laboratory (ARL) teamed with the Armament Research and Development Engineering Center (ARDEC) to ...

Generation of Secondary Motions in the Field of a Vortex

The Physics of Fluids, 1963
The investigation is concerned with motions in the region of the core of a vortex which exhibit peripheral vorticity. From theoretical reasoning it appears that development of such motions is favored as a zonal maximum of axially vorticity components is produced, e.g., by divergence of the vortex core.
