Vortex shedding-free strainers
Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part E: Journal of Process Mechanical Engineering, 2011The subject of the periodic vortex shedding behind bluff bodies, which exhibits oscillatory behaviour, is of direct relevance to many practical applications, e.g. pipelines and heat exchangers. Repetitive failures were occurring in associated piping components on the suction of a sales gas compressor.

Vortex Shedding in a Turbine Cascade
International Journal of Turbo and Jet Engines, 1998Flow simulations have been performed to examine vortex shedding in a turbine cascasde. Four progressively finer grids were used, and it was found that a very fine grid is required to accurately capture the unsteady flow in the trailing edge region. The predominant shedding frequency in the simulations was in good agreement with the experimental result.

Feedback Control of Karman Vortex Shedding
Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1996A computational study of the feedback control of the magnitude of the lift in flow around a cylinder is presented. The uncontrolled flow exhibits an unsymmetric Karman vortex street and a periodic lift coefficient. The size of the oscillations in the lift is reduced through an active feedback control system.
