Traditional interferometric methods for measuring the vortex structure of complex wave fields suffer from many intrinsic problems and seldom yield results of any accuracy. Using the unique properties of what I call Poincaré vortices, I develop a radically different method based on Stokes parameters that offers many practical advantages.

On the localization of the vortices
1998The author discusses the time evolution of an inviscid incompressible fluid in two dimensions with initial vorticity concentrated in a finite number of disjoint regions of small diameter. The weak formulation of the Euler equations is used. It is proved that the blobs of vorticity remain localized at a finite time under some assumption on the size of ...

Vortices and vortical structures in internal aerodynamics
Journal of Thermal Science, 1997The paper aims at summarizing the author’s recent phenomenological study of the origin, development and identification of vortical structures in internal aerodynamics.

Of Vortices and Vortical Layers: An Overview
2000A theoretical overview of local flow models such as hyperbolic point flows or localized vorticity structures is presented. Vortex layers and tubes are particularly emphazised. Various exact Navier-Stokes or Euler solutions are introduced to analyse generic features of vorticity dynamics: vorticity gradients, vorticity stretching, interplay between ...

About Vorticity Numbers and Vorticity Measures
1980We designate as the vorticity number a dimensionless number formed with the vorticity strength, such as in Eq. (6). Moreover, it ordinarily contains a reference length and a reference velocity. Therefore, it is a purely kinematic number. A vorticity measure has the same properties. However, in addition, the numerical value of a vorticity measure should
