Serious fault identification for VSC-HVDC converters

2020 4th International Conference on HVDC (HVDC), 2020
Voltage Source Converter-based High Voltage Direct Current systems are particularly prone to have IGBT valve short-circuit, AC single phase grounding fault and other types of serious fault. In this paper, for the five most common serious VSC faults of VSC-HVDC, a method to both protect against and identify these kinds of faults that can block a faulty ...

Performance analysis of paralleled VSC-HVDC systems

2016 International Conference on Microelectronics, Computing and Communications (MicroCom), 2016
This paper presents a detailed study of the VSC-HVDC system along with the related cases of paralleling two similar VSC-HVDC systems. A basic VSC-HVDC system is designed with controllers on either side of the system. The system is further expanded by connecting a similar VSC-HVDC system in parallel for enhancing the reliability.

DC line protection for VSC-HVDC system

2012 IEEE International Conference on Power Electronics, Drives and Energy Systems (PEDES), 2012
Voltage source converters based HVDC (VSC-HVDC) systems involving overhead transmission lines are prone to severe over-currents and over-voltages during dc line faults. This necessitates the operation of the system with some kind of protective devices to overcome the effects of dc line faults.

Design and simulation of VSC-HVDC controller

2011 International Conference on Electrical and Control Engineering, 2011
VSC-HVDC composed by full-controlled converter units is more flexible transmission schemes compared with traditional HVDC. It is necessary to study its control mode. This paper first analyzes the steady-state model of VSC-HVDC, then obtains the relationship among modulation wave phase δ, modulation degree m, active power and reactive power.

Nonlinear control for VSC based HVDC system

2006 IEEE Power Engineering Society General Meeting, 2006
Voltage source converter (VSC) based HVDC is a multivariable, strongly coupled nonlinear system. It is quite difficult to establish the precise mathematic model of the VSC. This paper adopts the theory of the nonlinear transformation and the feedback linearization of nonlinear system, establishes the nonlinear mathematic model of the VSC in d-q ...

Multi-level voltage reinjection VSC HVDC transmission

8th IEE International Conference on AC and DC Power Transmission (ACDC 2006), 2006
The structure and control of a new voltage source based HVDC transmission link are described. The link uses multi-level voltage reinjection converters. It offers some advantages over PWM-VSC transmission in terms of switching efficiency and valve ratings, while providing similar levels of voltage and current waveform quality.
