The Effect of 6‐Week Advanced Oral Care on Oral Microbiome and Mycobiome Composition in People With Dementia Living in Residential Aged Care

open access: yesClinical and Experimental Dental Research, Volume 11, Issue 5, October 2025.
ABSTRACT Objectives Oral health is an important aspect of quality of life for older people, especially those with dementia. The impact of an active oral hygiene program on the oral microbiome was explored in a group of older participants (average age 84 years old) with dementia against a separate control group whose oral hygiene followed the status quo.

Pathways to Progressive Disability in Multiple Sclerosis: The Role of Glial Cells in Chronic CNS Inflammation

open access: yesGlia, Volume 73, Issue 10, Page 1928-1950, October 2025.
Main Points Multiple sclerosis involves chronic CNS inflammation and neurodegeneration. This review highlights glial cells as key drivers in progressive MS, focusing on lesion pathology, molecular dysfunction, and human‐relevant model systems. ABSTRACT Multiple sclerosis (MS) is the most common non‐infectious inflammatory CNS disease, characterized by ...

Synthetic microneurotrophins: Neurotrophin receptors for therapeutics of neurodegenerative diseases

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 182, Issue 19, Page 4466-4489, October 2025.
Neurodegenerative disorders are characterised by the chronic progressive degeneration of specific neuronal subtypes, neuroinflammation, myelin damage and synaptic loss. Despite their growing incidence, advancements in effective treatments remain limited, because of lack of knowledge for the aetiology of the diverse pathophysiology to design systematic ...

The Landscape of SPP1 + Macrophages Across Tissues and Diseases: A Comprehensive Review

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 176, Issue 2, Page 179-196, October 2025.
SPP1+ macrophages represent a conserved, disease‐associated population present across cancerous and non‐cancerous conditions, involved in immunosuppression, fibrosis, lipid metabolism, phagocytosis, and other cellular processes. This review highlights their shared molecular programmes across tissues, their interactions with stromal and immune cells ...

A MXene‐Based Nanothermal Knife Inhibits Aggresome‐Mediated Persister Formation for Preventing Dental Caries

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 33, September 4, 2025.
Early childhood caries (ECC) involves cariogenic persisters that evade antimicrobial treatment. Persisters achieve this by downregulating heat shock proteins (HSPs) and formation of protein aggregates. Ti3C2 MXene‐based photothermal therapy (PTT) acts as a “nanothermal knife,” disrupting membranes, upregulating HSPs, inhibits aggregates, prevents ...

Metabolic Programming Drives Protective and Inflammatory Monocyte Fates in Viral Encephalitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 12, Issue 33, September 4, 2025.
Bone marrow monocytes infiltrate the West Nile virus‐infected brain and differentiate into HIF1‐α⁺ monocyte‐derived cells (MCs) that diverge into protective, antigen‐presenting or inflammatory, iNOS⁺ MCs with distinct metabolic programs and functions.

Mycosis Fungoides, Sézary Syndrome, and Cutaneous B‐Cell Lymphomas: 2025 Update on Diagnosis, Risk‐Stratification, and Management

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Hematology, Volume 100, Issue 9, Page 1603-1628, September 2025.
ABSTRACT Disease Overview Primary cutaneous lymphomas are a rare and heterogeneous group of extranodal lymphomas that require the integration of clinical and histopathologic data for classification and treatment. Diagnosis Diagnosis and disease classification is based on histopathologic review and immunohistochemical staining of an appropriate skin ...
