SUMMARY A 20‐year‐old woman initially presented with clinical evidence of an acute vulval inflammatory disorder incorrectly diagnosed as a Bartholin's abscess. Prolonged healing associated with infection followed attempts to incise and biopsy the area.

Vulvitis circumscripta plasmacellularis

In this paper we present what is apparently the tenth published case of vulvitis circumscripta plasmacellularis (Zoon). The patient had eroded, red-brown, asymptomatic vulvar lesions that were recalcitrant to treatment. The characteristic histopathology--dense plasma cell infiltrate and deposition of hemosiderin--was present.

I have encountered in the past 2 or 3 months several young girls with a nonspecific vulvar irritation, manifested by pain, itching, burning and sometimes dysuria. In each of these children this was directly attributable to bathing in bubble bath or detergent—the symptoms disappearing upon the cessation of the use of these products.
