Abstract The far‐infrared (>16 μm) spectrum plays a crucial role in Earth's radiation budget but was rarely observed from space before 2024. Two Polar Radiant Energy in the Far Infrared Experiment (PREFIRE) satellites, PREFIRE2 (SAT‐2) and PREFIRE1 (SAT‐1), were launched in 2024.

Abstract Bispectral retrievals of the droplet effective radius (re) from instruments such as MODIS are widely utilized to study cloud microphysics in marine boundary layer clouds. These retrievals are known to have systematic errors due to cloud heterogeneity. Here, we develop a neural network regression to retrieve cloud‐top re at a solar zenith angle

Abstract Retrievals of ocean color (OC) properties from space are important for understanding the ocean ecosystem, the carbon cycle, and monitoring events such as harmful algal blooms (HABs). The recently launched U.S. National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Earth Venture Instrument, the geostationary Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of ...

Hourly Sulfur Dioxide Observations Over North America: First Retrieval Results From TEMPO
Abstract We present the first sulfur dioxide (SO2) retrievals from Tropospheric Emissions: Monitoring of Pollution (TEMPO), the first geostationary atmospheric composition sensor to cover North America, along with some potential applications of TEMPO SO2 data. We show that high resolution (∼10 km2) TEMPO measurements can be used to produce good quality

The structural and photophysical properties of the 2D layered metal halides (4F‐PMA)2GeI4 and (4F‐PMA)2PbI4 are reported. For the Ge composition, reduced exciton‐phonon coupling is found and the absence of bound‐exciton emission, present for the Pb composition.

Emulating Daytime ABI Cloud Optical Properties at Night With Machine Learning
Abstract Cloud optical property retrievals from passive satellite imagers tend to be most accurate during the daytime due to the availability of visible and near‐infrared solar reflectance. Infrared (IR) channels have a relative lack of spectral sensitivity to optically thick clouds and are heavily influenced by cloud‐top temperature making retrievals ...

Estimating radiant flux of nighttime light images from NASA’s Black Marble product
Recently, radiant flux has been proved as a more accurate measure of nighttime light (NTL) compared to radiance. To estimate radiant flux of NTL from nighttime light images accurately, we propose a practical methodology that considers the anisotropy of ...
