Macau as Method: Recombinant Urbanism in Post‐Socialist China

open access: yesAsia Pacific Viewpoint, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In ‘Asia as Method’, Chen Kuan‐Hsing argues for the value of an indigenous inter‐Asian approach to analysing the effects of European imperialism on the countries and citizens of Asia. This article mobilises both Chen's inter‐Asian referencing strategy and the city‐state of Macau to explore Macau's role in China's engagements with global ...

Research on Wake Characteristics of Dynamic Yawing Offshore Wind Turbine by Proper Orthogonal Decomposition

open access: yesOceans
The wake that forms behind a yawing wind turbine is a complex flow region that can affect the performance of downstream turbines in offshore wind farms.

Accountability and Hyperaccountability in Child Protection Scandals

open access: yesChild &Family Social Work, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The number of child abuse–related deaths has decreased significantly in the United Kingdom over the past 50 years, but there remains public and political concern about the actual and perceived risk of child deaths, with resultant processes enacted to supervise child protection practice.

Wake control using rotor tilting: Optimizing wind farm energy production through vertical wake deflection

open access: yes, 2018
Currently there is strong interest in the deployment of renewable energy sources such as wind, solar and hydro energy. This is driven in part due to the negative consequences of burning fossil fuels, such as health issues and climate change.

Magical Realist Hauntings in Children's Everyday Encounters With Death, or, How to Believe in Impossible Things

open access: yesChildren &Society, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Modern deaths have become reiterations. That is, despite exhibiting a seemingly high‐level of diversity in death's representations in everyday lives, death suffers from a particular onto‐epistemological poverty that prevents it from being imagined otherwise.

Wing Deflection Analysis of 3D Printed Wind Tunnel Models

open access: yes, 2017
This work investigates the feasibility of producing small scale, low aerodynamic loading wind tunnel models, using FDM 3D printing methods, that are both structurally and aerodynamically representative in the wind tunnel.

Why do defensive routines persist in organizational contexts? Results from a two‐year ethnographic action research

open access: yesEuropean Management Review, EarlyView.
Abstract Literature offers valuable insight into defensive routines, which are acknowledged by academics as barriers to organizational learning and innovation. Nevertheless, we find that there is a lack of attention in examining why defensive routines are persistent in organizational life.

Hydrodynamic characteristics of unequal-diameter side-by-side cylinders at low Reynolds numbers

open access: yesApplied Ocean Research
The flow around two cylinders arranged side-by-side with unequal diameters was numerically analyzed at a low Reynolds number. Re=100 is defined according to the diameter of the larger cylinder, and the gap ratio was fixed to G/D=1.

Quantifying Fiber Bridging in Mode I Fatigue Delamination of CFRP/GFRP Hybrid Laminates Using a Superposed Traction–Separation Model

open access: yesFatigue &Fracture of Engineering Materials &Structures, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Hybrid CFRP/GFRP laminates offer an attractive balance between mechanical performance, damage tolerance, and cost efficiency. However, fiber bridging during mode I delamination increases crack‐growth resistance while masking the intrinsic fatigue behavior of the material. This study applies a traction–separation‐based superposition approach to

Enchanting the Otherwise: Magical Realism and the Gendered Ontologies of Organizational Becoming

open access: yesGender, Work &Organization, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This paper enacts a feminist‐posthumanist reimagining of gender as ontological disturbance, using magical realism not as metaphor but as epistemological method. Rejecting representational logics and the managerial rationalities of organizational realism, we advance gender not as identity or role but as spectral interference—a transversal ...
