Three dimensionality in the wake of the flow around a circular cylinder at Reynolds number 5000 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
The turbulent flow around a circular cylinder has been investigated at Re=5000Re=5000 using direct numerical simulations. Low frequency behavior, vortex undulation, vortex splitting, vortex dislocations and three dimensional flow within the wake were ...

Data-driven wake model parameter estimation to analyze effects of wake superposition

open access: yesJournal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, 2023
Low-fidelity wake models are used for wind farm design and control optimization. To generalize to a wind farm model, individually modeled wakes are commonly superimposed using approximate superposition models. Wake models parameterize atmospheric and wake turbulence, introducing unknown model parameters that historically are tuned with idealized ...

Curvature effects on a bluff-body wake

open access: yesPhysics of Fluids
This paper prioritizes advancing the understanding of curvature effects on bluff-body wakes to address the possible influence of wake and vorticity dynamics of non-reacting flows inside curved combustors. First, large eddy simulation of a non-reacting flow is carried out in a well-defined triangular bluff-body geometry with no curvature effect.

Wake fields effects in dielectric capillary

open access: yesNuclear Instruments and Methods in Physics Research Section A: Accelerators, Spectrometers, Detectors and Associated Equipment, 2018
Plasma wake-field acceleration experiments are performed at the SPARC LAB test facility by using a gas-filled capillary plasma source composed of a dielectric capillary. The electron can reach GeV energy in a few centimeters, with an accelerating gradient orders of magnitude larger than provided by conventional techniques.

Improving the wake steering engineering models with wake deflection coupling effects

open access: yes, 2019
In the presentation, we propose engineering model extensions to take into account the coupling between yaw offset and deflection of the wake for the downstream and the neighbouring wind turbines.

Wake effects characterization using wake oscillator model. Comparison on 2D response with experiments

open access: yes, 2008
A model using wake oscillators is developed to predict the 2D motion in a transverse plan of two rigid cylinders in tandem arrangement. This model of the wake dynamics is validated with experimental data from previous trials which took place at the Ifremer flume tank in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France.

Wind Turbine Power Curve Design for Optimal Power Generation in Wind Farms Considering Wake Effect

open access: yesEnergies, 2017
In modern wind farms, maximum power point tracking (MPPT) is widely implemented. Using the MPPT method, each individual wind turbine is controlled by its pitch angle and tip speed ratio to generate the maximum active power.

An experimental study of airfoil instability tonal noise with trailing edge serrations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This paper presents an experimental study of the effect of trailing edge serrations on airfoil instability noise. Detailed aeroacoustic measurements are presented of the noise radiated by an NACA-0012 airfoil with trailing edge serrations in a low to ...
