Different models of wake expansion are presented in this chapter: the 1D momentum theory model, the cylinder analog model and Theodorsen’s model. Far wake models such as the ones from Frandsen or Rathmann or only briefly mentioned. The different models are compared to each other. Results from this chapter are used in Chap.

Stochastic model for turbulent, reacting wakes
Aerothermochemistry of Turbulent Flows Conference, 1965Electron density fluctuations in a turbulent wake are examined by means of a stochastic model. The gas velocity fluctuations are prescribed, both in mean values and in statistical properties, and the chemical rate and continuity equations are solved for an ensemble of velocity samples.

Aerodynamic Investigation of Hover Using Vortex Ring Wake Model and Free Vortex Wake Model
AIAA SCITECH 2025 ForumModeling rotor inflow and wake dynamics is fundamental to understanding and improving rotorcraft performance. Especially, hover modeling plays an important role in aircraft design, aerodynamic assessments, and the development of control systems for helicopters and eVTOLs.

Wind farm layout optimization with a three-dimensional Gaussian wake model
, 2020An accurate wake model is essential for the mathematical modeling of a wind farm (WF) and the optimal positioning of wind turbines (WTs). In order to effectively solve the WF layout optimization problem, this paper presents a newly-developed three ...

A model of shiftworker sleep/wake behaviour
Accident Analysis & Prevention, 2012Software-based biomathematical models of alertness provide a means to estimate fatigue-related risk in advance of a schedule being worked. Obtaining a good estimate of employees' sleep/wake behaviour during non-work periods is critical in obtaining accurate estimates of alertness.

The dynamic wake meandering model (DWM) is a common wake model used for fast prediction of wind farm power and loads. This model is compared to higher fidelity vortex method (VM) and actuator line large eddy simulation (AL-LES) model results.
