An overview of data for wake model evaluation in the Virtual Wakes Laboratory
Applied Energy, 2013Abstract Improved prognostic models of wind turbine wakes are essential to improved design of offshore wind farms to maximized power production and minimize turbine fatigue loading. This paper describes the Virtual Wake Laboratory, an online open access resource that provides meteorological and wind farm data for use in wake characterization and wake

The dynamics of the turbulent three-dimensional wake generated by an axisymmetric bluff body with blunt trailing edge are experimentally and theoretically investigated at a diameter based Reynolds number of 188,000. A detailed analysis of the base pressure measurements shows that the large scale structures of the turbulent three-dimensional wake retain

Different models of wake expansion are presented in this chapter: the 1D momentum theory model, the cylinder analog model and Theodorsen’s model. Far wake models such as the ones from Frandsen or Rathmann or only briefly mentioned. The different models are compared to each other. Results from this chapter are used in Chap.

Stochastic model for turbulent, reacting wakes
Aerothermochemistry of Turbulent Flows Conference, 1965Electron density fluctuations in a turbulent wake are examined by means of a stochastic model. The gas velocity fluctuations are prescribed, both in mean values and in statistical properties, and the chemical rate and continuity equations are solved for an ensemble of velocity samples.

Aerodynamic Investigation of Hover Using Vortex Ring Wake Model and Free Vortex Wake Model
AIAA SCITECH 2025 ForumModeling rotor inflow and wake dynamics is fundamental to understanding and improving rotorcraft performance. Especially, hover modeling plays an important role in aircraft design, aerodynamic assessments, and the development of control systems for helicopters and eVTOLs.

Propeller Wake Alignment Models
SNAME 8th Propeller and Shafting Symposium, 1997Various wake alignment techniques which have been developed in the past for the analysis of non-cavitating propellers in uniform inflows are reviewed and some of them are extended in the case of cavitating flows subject to inclined inflows. The effect of the inclined trailing wake geometry on the predicted cavities and blade forces is found to be ...

Validation of a State-Space Free Wake Model with a Near-Wake Vortex Lattice Model
Proceedings of the Vertical Flight Society 81st Annual Forum and Technology DisplayThis paper presents the implementation and validation of a state-space free-vortex wake model with a vortex lattice near-wake formulation, developed for rotorcraft applications. The model is expressed in state-variable form as a nonlinear time-periodic (NLTP) system in first-order structure, enabling linearization and simplification through time ...
