Rapid eye movement sleep muscle activity in routine polysomnography as a marker for narcolepsy
Abstract Narcolepsy is a chronic neurological disorder characterized by excessive daytime sleepiness and associated symptoms, including cataplexy, sleep paralysis, hypnagogic/hypnopompic hallucinations, and disrupted nocturnal sleep. It is classified into two subtypes: narcolepsy type 1 (NT1), which involves cataplexy and/or low cerebrospinal fluid ...

Wind-farm wake recovery mechanisms in conventionally neutral boundary layers [PDF]
Synthetic-aperture radar images and mesoscale model results show that wind-farm wakes behave very differently than single-turbine wakes, e.g. with wakes that seemingly narrow and do not disperse over long distances. In the current work, we aim at better understanding the physical mechanisms that govern wind-farm wake behaviour and recovery.

In the aftermath of the 2020 U.S. election, the boundary between activism and extremism blurred, with election officials reporting violent threats and false accusations of election fraud. From a symbolic interactionist perspective, these attacks provide a unique lens for examining the consequences of being falsely labeled a criminal.

Existing clinical approaches for assessing anesthesia depth often rely on physiological and behavioral indicators, which can be unreliable due to uncertain correlation with patient consciousness. This study presents a neuromorphic SNN with STDP, implemented on an field‐programmable gate array (FPGA) platform, enabling real‐time iEEG‐based assessment of

Self-consistent model for active control of wind turbine wakes [PDF]
Active wake control (AWC) has emerged as a promising strategy for enhancing wind turbine wake recovery, but accurately modelling its underlying fluid mechanisms remains challenging. This study presents a computationally efficient wake model that provides end-to-end prediction capability from rotor actuation to wake recovery enhancement by capturing the

The Morphospace of Consciousness
We construct a complexity-based morphospace to study systems-level properties of conscious & intelligent systems. The axes of this space label 3 complexity types: autonomous, cognitive & social.

Does the 1/f frequency-scaling of brain signals reflect self-organized critical states?
Many complex systems display self-organized critical states characterized by 1/f frequency scaling of power spectra. Global variables such as the electroencephalogram, scale as 1/f, which could be the sign of self-organized critical states in neuronal ...

Symptomatic narcolepsy in a dog with functional pituitary gland macroadenoma
Abstract Symptomatic narcolepsy in dogs has been rarely reported. A 7‐year‐old, female, neutered Greek harehound presented with chronic progressive lethargy, dysphonia, episodes of flaccid paralysis of all limbs following excitement or eating, as well as pinnae and tail alopecia, hyperpigmentation and ‘rat tail’.
