Reconstructing Old Chinese *‐ts Using Han‐Time Material
Abstract Baxter & Sagart (2014b) reconstruct *‐Vt‐s on the basis of Middle Chinese reflexes in ‐jH (from some OC *‐s) coupled with either etymological or graphic connections to words in Middle Chinese ‐t. This approach, while perfectly sound, can suffer from lack of etymological or graphic data, leading to missed reconstructions. Since Old Chinese *‐ts

Effects of Jet-to-Jet Spacing on Wake Dynamics and Interactions for Multiple Jets in a Crossflow
Abstract This work extends our previous study to investigate the variations in wake vortex formation and jet-to-jet interactions with changes in jet spacing for a single jet and multiple jets in crossflow with jet spacings of 3.2D, 2.5D, and 1.6D (D = jet nozzle diameter).

The Gender of Fossil Fuels: Oil and Domestic Perils in Mandate Palestine
ABSTRACT This article explores the gender dynamics behind the rise of kerosene – an oil derivative – as the main domestic fuel in Mandate Palestine. It argues that these dynamics were constitutive in determining who began to use oil, where and for what purposes, in turn demonstrating that women in Palestine were the promoters and targets of a campaign ...

Absolute instability in axisymmetric wakes: Compressible and density variation effects
International audienceLesshafft & Huerre (Phys. Fluids, 2007; vol. 19, 024102) have recently studied the transition from convective to absolute instability in hot round jets, for which absolute instability is led by axisymmetric perturbations and ...

‘From the Fields Into the Bars’: The Story of Israel's First Transgender Novel, The Cut (1977)
ABSTRACT In 1977, an Israeli transgender woman, Judy Spotheim, published an autobiographical novel entitled The Cut. It describes the emergence of a trans community in the commercial‐sex areas of Tel Aviv‐Jaffa, hoping to humanise trans women (coccinelles). This article is the first to study the novel and present a biography of Spotheim.

The End of Self‐Regulation: Will the Football Governance Act 2025 Fix the National Game?
The Football Governance Act 2025 is a watershed. It upends the model of self‐regulation that has defined how the game has been run in England and Wales for over a century‐and‐a‐half. The newly created Independent Football Regulator will exercise control over clubs, owners, and competition organisers.

Numerical modeling of island wakes in shallow waters
Turbulent shallow flows such as jets, mixing layers and wakes are common in nature. These flows are characterized by their high Reynolds number (≈ 106-109) and by their large horizontal length scale in comparison to their vertical length scale.

‘Fine Men from Afar’: Cricket and Empire on the Home Front
Abstract During the Second World War, contrary to enduring images of bombardment and scarcity, people on Britain's ‘Home Front’ continued to take part in a broad array of sporting activities. Cricket played a more significant role in the wartime sporting landscape than many historians have previously recognized.
