Measurement of the local gas velocity at the outlet of a wall flow particle filter
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2005<div class="htmlview paragraph">Recent measurements and models show that the soot distribution and the permeability of the soot layer depend on the selected engine operating points both while loading and during regeneration. The influence of an upstream oxidation catalyst on the soot distribution has been shown.

Wall-Flow Diesel Particulate Filters—Their Pressure Drop and Collection Efficiency
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1989<div class="htmlview paragraph">The present study investigates the pressure drop and filtration characteristics of wall-flow diesel particulate monoliths, with the aid of a mathematical model. An analytic solution to the model equations describing exhaust gas mass and momentum conservation, in the axial direction of a monolith cell, and pressure ...

Numerical Study on Forced Regeneration of Wall-Flow Diesel Particulate Filters
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2001<div class="htmlview paragraph">A computational model which describes the combustion and heat transfer that takes place during forced regeneration of honeycomb structured wall flow type diesel particulate filter was developed. In this model, heat released by the soot- oxygen reaction, convection heat transfer in the gas phase, conductive heat ...

Techniques for measuring wall flow along the channels of a diesel particulate filter
Measurement Science and Technology, 2003This paper presents two novel tracer gas based techniques that have been developed to measure the axial variation of wall flow through the porous channel walls of a diesel particulate filter. The first technique is based on measuring the dilution of a tracer gas, introduced at the upstream end of the 'outlet' channel, due to the wall flow.

Dynamic Fatigue Data for Cordierite Ceramic Wall-Flow Diesel Filters
SAE Technical Paper Series, 1991<div class="htmlview paragraph">The dynamic fatigue data for two different cordierite ceramic wall-flow diesel filter compositions, EX-54 and EX-66, are obtained at 200° and 400°C using the 4-point bend test. These compositions offer larger mean pore size and experience lower pressure drop than the EX-47 composition, and hence are more desirable ...

Tests on Catalytic Wall Flow Filters for PM Abatement from Biomass Boilers
2016Wall flow catalytic filters may represent an efficient solution for PM emission control of biomass-fired boilers and stoves, as they combine physical filtration processes with catalytic oxidative reactions. Moreover, such solution may be applied both in new equipment and in retrofit of existing appliances, and may be easily scaled according to the size

Flow Distributions and Pressure Drops of Wall-Flow Diesel Particulate Filters
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2002<div class="htmlview paragraph">This paper describes an analytical and a numerical study of wall-flow filters with equilateral triangular channels. The flow fields of these filters are modeled analytically using a one-dimensional approach, and also simulated numerically using a three-dimensional approach. The flow distributions and pressure drops

Modelling of wall-flow filters for diesel particulate removal
2009Abstract Diesel particulate filter (DPF) is regarded as the most useful technology to reduce particulate matter from exhaust gas of a diesel engine. Exhaust gas entering the channel is forced to flow through the ceramic porous walls into the adjoining cells and thus leaving the particulates behind. The collected particulate matter inside the trap has

Analysis of Asymmetric and Variable Cell Geometry Wall-Flow Particulate Filters
SAE International Journal of Fuels and Lubricants, 2014<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Asymmetric and Variable Cell (AVC) geometry Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF) occupy an increasing portion of the DPFs currently offered by various DPF manufacturers, aiming at providing higher filtration area in the same filter volume to meet demanding emission control ...
