ERO2.0 predictions of nickel migration in the JET ITER-Like Wall
Nickel transport in the Joint European Torus with the ITER-like wall (JET-ILW) is predicted using the 3D Monte-Carlo code ERO2.0, simulating the erosion and deposition of impurities in 3D geometry and utilizing hydrogenic background plasmas generated by ...

UCanWBGT: urban street canyon heat stress calculation for weather and climate models
This work introduces UCanWBGT, a new model to calculate wet‐bulb globe temperature in an urban environment, suitable for use with weather and climate model data. We present the model, then verify its performance against observations made in the streets of Paris during heatwave conditions.

Parameter investigation for urban surface‐energy balance: A large‐eddy simulation study
Large eddy simulation modelling is used to investigate the variation in surface‐energy balance (SEB) across an ensemble of morphometrically identical urban geometries. The geometries have the same plan‐area fraction, vegetated fraction, and frontal‐area index, but are unique in terms of building and green‐space layout.

The optimal decision of insulation in cladding structures for energy efficient buildings
Execution of thermal insulation for enclosing structures of residential properties is a sophisticated part of the thermal protection. The choice of insulation materials for external walls is one of the main ways to increase the performance of heat ...

ABSTRACT This work presents a non‐geometrical navigation approach based on a purely topological understanding of underground environments. By conceptualizing subterranean scenarios as a set of tunnels that intersect with each other, and taking a navigation approach based on topological instructions, we simplify the navigation problem to the sequential ...

Tree canopy height is a key indicator of forest biomass and structure, yet accurate mapping across the Amazon remains challenging. Here, we generated a canopy height map of the Amazon forest at ~4.8 m resolution using Planet NICFI imagery and a deep learning U‐Net model trained with airborne LiDAR data.

Evaluation of the cool-down behaviour of ITER FW beryllium tiles for an early failure detection
The design of the first wall in ITER foresees several hundred thousand beryllium tiles, which are bonded to the water-cooled CuCrZr supporting structure. Due to the nature of a Tokamak reactor this bonding is faced to thermal fatigue.

Machine learning image classifiers are increasingly being used to automate camera trap image labelling, but we don't know how much ML model accuracy matters for downstream ecological analyses. Using two large data sets from an African savannah and an Asian dry forest ecosystem, we compared human labelled data with predictions from deep‐learning models ...
