SUMMARY The work summarised in this paper has been directed to examine the basic requirements of warehouse layouts. Two simple types of layout have been examined and equations derived for the dimensioning of these, given such information as total volume of stock and number of stock lines. A sketch of the layouts is given.

A framework for the design of warehouse layout
Facilities, 2002This paper presents a framework for the design of warehouse layout to organize the design process, facilitate the task of designers, and highlight important design issues to help warehouse managers make informed decisions. The framework accounts for several factors and operations of warehousing in the design, and addresses design decisions required to ...

Layouts of Unit-Load Warehouses with Multiple Slot Heights
Transportation Science, 2020We describe a method to generate layouts for unit-load warehouses that use multiple slot heights as a way to maximize warehouse space utilization. The problem has two parts: slots must be arranged into rack-bays, and rack-bays must be arranged into a layout.

Metaheuristic for the Multiple Level Warehouse Layout Problem
2012In this paper, we introduce an ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm for solving the NP-hard Multiple Level Warehouse Layout Problem (MLWLP). The problem description consists of a warehouse made up of several levels, each divided into a known number of cells, and different product types need to be allocated while respecting the capacity constraints ...

Layouts and Work Methods for Wool Warehouses
1965Excerpts from the report: In 1963 there were about 238 million pounds of wool shorn from approximately 27.8 million sheep in this country. The sales value of this wool is estimated at $115 million. Approximately 190 warehouses throughout the country handle this wool.
