Bioinspired Stabilization of Fluorescent Au@SiO2 Tracers for Multimodal Biological Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a bioinspired stabilization strategy for fluorescent gold‐silica nanoparticles. Inspired by natural biosilica maturation, high‐temperature calcination transforms the silica shells, preventing dissolution in cell culture media and intracellular environments.

A Dislocation based Constitutive Model for Warm Forming of Aluminum Sheet [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
The formability of aluminum sheet can be improved considerably by increasing the temperature.\ud At elevated temperatures, the mechanical response of the material becomes strain rate dependent.\ud To accurately simulate warm forming of aluminum sheet, a ...

Respiratory Organ‐on‐a‐Chip for Disease Modeling: From Architecture to Functional Integration

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Respiratory organ‐on‐a‐chip (ROC) models capture key mechanical and cellular cues of the human respiratory system, enabling quantitative dissection of disease mechanisms. This review links ROC architectures to disease modeling, functional integration, and commercialization, and proposes a decision framework that aligns model complexity with mechanistic

On the Potential for Bioenergy and Biofuels from Hydrothermal Vent Microbes [PDF]

open access: yesOceanography, 2012
The discovery of deep-sea hydrothermal vents caused scientists to reconsider their notions about life in the deep sea. In these seemingly inhospitable environments, free-living microbes, as well as microbial-animal symbioses, thrive in the warm waters ...

A Superhydrophobic 3D Cell Culture System Reveals the Mechanobiological Role of Cancer‐Associated Fibroblasts in Prostate Cancer Metastasis

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A superhydrophobic 3D cell culture platform enables rapid and consistent formation of heterotypic tumor–stroma clusters, and reveals how physiological shear conditions influence metastatic signaling. Mechanical stimulation of cancer‐associated fibroblasts promotes sustained cytokine secretion and survival‐promoting pathways, showing how multicellular ...

A Physiological Microfluidic Blood–Brain‐Barrier Model for In Vitro Study of Nanoparticle Trafficking and Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A human microfluidic blood‐brain barrier (mBBB) model enables spatially resolved comparison of nanoparticle trafficking. Extracellular vesicles (EVs), liposomes, and nanoplastics exhibit distinct transport and disruption behaviors, revealing that membrane composition and uptake pathways govern BBB interaction.

Effect of temperature and drawing speed on warm deep drawing characteristics of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet

open access: yesJournal of Japan Institute of Light Metals, 2006
In this study, effect of drawing speed and flange temperature on formability of cylindrical cup warm deep drawing of AZ31 magnesium alloy sheet is clarified experimentally. For the purpose, a new locally heating and cooling deep drawing apparatus is designed and developed. Magnesium alloy used is AZ31 sheet with 0.5mm thickness.

Ammonium Salts as Curing Agents to Obtain Ionic Epoxy Resins With a Thermoplastic‐to‐Thermoset Transition

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Ionic epoxy networks are prepared using ammonium salts as hardeners, leading to a two‐stage curing process with a thermoplastic‐like intermediate. This uncommon behavior enables extrusion and fabrication of thermoplastic prepregs that can be cured into thermoset composites.

Aluminium sheet forming at elevated temperatures [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The formability of aluminum sheet depends on the temperature of the material and the strain\ud rate. E.g. the limiting drawing ratio can be improved by increasing the temperature uniformly, but even more by\ud heating the flange and cooling the punch. To
