A Warming Mediterranean: 38 Years of Increasing Sea Surface Temperature

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2020
The Mediterranean basin has been classified as a hot-spot for climate change. The Mediterranean Sea plays a fundamental regulatory role in the regional climate.

Childrens Participation and Citizenship in a Global Age. Empowerment, Tokenism or Discriminatory Disciplining?

open access: yesSocial Work and Society, 2011
This article explores children's participation and citizenship, taking its point of departure in the empirical observation of a paradox: On the hand there is a general participatory climate and a growing commitment to empowerment of children, and on ...

Warm Inflation [PDF]

open access: yesUniverse, 2016
I show here that there are some interesting differences between the predictions of warm and cold inflation models focusing in particular upon the scalar spectral index n s and the tensor-to-scalar ratio r. The first thing to be noted is that the warm inflation models in general predict a vanishingly small value of r.

Increasing precipitation weakened the negative effects of simulated warming on soil microbial community composition in a semi-arid sandy grassland

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2023
Soil microbial diversity, composition, and function are sensitive to global change factors. It has been predicted that the temperature and precipitation will increase in northern China.

Marine Microbial Food Web Networks During Phytoplankton Bloom and Non-bloom Periods: Warming Favors Smaller Organism Interactions and Intensifies Trophic Cascade

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2020
Microbial food web organisms are at the base of the functioning of pelagic ecosystems and support the whole marine food web. They are very reactive to environmental changes and their interactions are modified in response to different productive periods ...

Nonindigenous Plant Advantage in Native and Exotic Australian Grasses under Experimental Drought, Warming, and Atmospheric CO2 Enrichment

open access: yesBiology, 2013
A general prediction of ecological theory is that climate change will favor invasive nonindigenous plant species (NIPS) over native species. However, the relative fitness advantage enjoyed by NIPS is often affected by resource limitation and potentially ...

Precipitation increase counteracts warming effects on plant and soil C:N:P stoichiometry in an alpine meadow

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2022
Temperature and precipitation are expected to increase in the forthcoming decades in the northeastern Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau, with uncertain effects of their interaction on plant and soil carbon:nitrogen:phosphorus (C:N:P) stoichiometry in alpine ...

Effectiveness of Resistance Intradialytic Exercise Compared to Aerobic Intradialytic Exercise for Patients With Chronic Kidney Disease: A Randomized Controlled Clinical Trial

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis commonly experience reduced physical function, fatigue, poor sleep quality, and impaired health‐related quality of life. Intradialytic exercise has been proposed as a non‐pharmacological strategy to improve these outcomes.

High-temperature thermal discharge inhibits plankton community metabolism in a partly eutrophicated bay in China

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
Managing the marine ecosystem effectively requires studying the response of plankton community metabolism to warming. Moreover, warming caused by thermal discharge is known to significantly raise the water temperatures in the nuclear power plants ...
