Exact Mean Computation in Dynamic Time Warping Spaces

open access: yes, 2018
Dynamic time warping constitutes a major tool for analyzing time series. In particular, computing a mean series of a given sample of series in dynamic time warping spaces (by minimizing the Fr\'echet function) is a challenging computational problem, so ...

Sub‐1000 °C Sintering of Protonic Ceramic Electrochemical Cells via Microwave‐Driven Vapor Phase Diffusion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A transformative microwave‐driven vapor‐phase sintering strategy enables densification of proton‐conducting electrolytes at 980 °C, reducing the sintering temperature by over 500 °C and addressing a major bottleneck toward PCEC manufacturing. Abstract Protonic ceramic electrochemical cells (PCECs) hold significant promise for efficient power generation

Making the dynamic time warping distance warping-invariant [PDF]

open access: yesPattern Recognition, 2019
The literature postulates that the dynamic time warping (dtw) distance can cope with temporal variations but stores and processes time series in a form as if the dtw-distance cannot cope with such variations. To address this inconsistency, we first show that the dtw-distance is not warping-invariant.

A multiresolution approach to time warping achieved by a Bayesian prior-posterior transfer fitting strategy. [PDF]

open access: yes
The procedure known as warping aims at reducing phase variability in a sample of functional curve observations, by applying a smooth bijection to the argument of each of the functions.

Deep Eutectic Inks for Multiphoton 3D Laser Microprinting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Using deep eutectic inks in multiphoton 3D laser printing enables excellent printability of soft and elastic complex 3D microstructures. This is achieved by employing supramolecular interactions between a variety of monomers and a metal halide, which is easily removed during development. The new ink design is extendable to other monomer compositions to

Enabling Additively Manufactured Electronics Through Laser Induced Graphene and Copper Deposition on Fully‐Aromatic Polyimides

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This article introduces a hybrid manufacturing approach to create conductive pathways in additively manufactured fully‐aromatic polyimides. This is enabled through a combination of high‐resolution laser scribing process for fabricating graphene and metallizing it with electrodeposition of copper to further increase conductivity.

Warped Wetware

open access: yes
Humanity's core evolutionary trait, a preference for short-term outcomes, has become the engine of its own systemic collapse.Artificial intelligence is the catalyst that accelerates this collapse while blinding its human pilots. Our systems are now structurally resistant to foresight-driven prevention - change is no longer a function of foresight, but ...

Warped functional regression [PDF]

open access: yesBiometrika, 2014
A characteristic feature of functional data is the presence of phase variability in addition to amplitude variability. Existing functional regression methods do not handle time variability in an explicit and efficient way. In this paper we introduce a functional regression method that incorporates time warping as an intrinsic part of the model.

Unraveling the Effects of Improved Cooling and Bias Force in the Actuation of a Shape‐Memory Soft Multimaterial Gripper

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This study examines a soft gripper with a NiTiCu6 Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) wire embedded in a graphene nanoparticle (GNP)‐functionalized PDMS matrix. Comparing GNP‐enhanced and plain elastomer prototypes, results show that GNPs improve cooling rates, accelerating release by 40%, but increase energy consumption in low‐current activations.

Transverse shear warping functions for anisotropic multilayered plates

open access: yes, 2012
In this work, transverse shear warping functions for an equivalent single layer plate model are formulated from a variational approach. The part of the strain energy which involves the shear phenomenon is expressed in function of the warping functions ...
