The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Single Ultrasonic-Assisted Washing for Eco-Efficient Production of Mackerel (Auxis thazard) Surimi

open access: yesFoods, 2023
This study highlights a promising single washing method for producing dark-fleshed mackerel surimi aided by ultrasonication in conjunction with cold carbonated water containing 0.6% NaCl and mixed antioxidants (0.5% EDTA/0.2% sodium erythorbate/0.2 ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Functional range of motion for basic seated activities of daily living tasks

open access: yesFrontiers in Sports and Active Living
IntroductionEfficient performance of activities of daily living (ADLs) requires coordinated movement across multiple upper-limb joints. However, current assessments of joint range of motion (ROM) during ADLs often rely on subjective evaluation and lack ...

Conceptual design of a process plant for the production of plantain flour

open access: yesCogent Engineering, 2016
Plantain has become an essential source of food in the Nigerian market today and to this effect, it is fast becoming a sought-after fruit, especially for persons diagnosed with diabetics. Being a perishable fruit, plantain is usually processed into flour

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Effects of Processing on Antinutrients, Bioactives and Functional Properties of Bamboo Shoots (Bambusa beecheyana)

open access: yesFoods
Bamboo shoots are a valuable source of dietary fiber and antioxidants; however, their high levels of soluble oxalates and uric acid require reduction prior to consumption.

Effects of equipments and processing conditions on quality of fresh-cut produce

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Engineering, 2018
A wide range of fresh conveniently packaged, minimally processed products are available on both local and global market in response to consumer demand for ready to eat food. Majority of these products are leafy vegetables, which are highly susceptible to

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Effect of lactic acid bacteria ferment cultures on pork freshness

open access: yesUkrainian Journal of Veterinary Sciences
During the primary pork processing at the stage of cooling half-carcasses, their mass is lost, leading to economic losses. One promising way to solve this problem is to wash halfcarcasses with chilled water.
