Nitrogen Washout and Mortality

Survey of Anesthesiology, 1986
We studied the association between different tests of pulmonary function and subsequent mortality. Subjects were drawn from an epidemiology study of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. Between 1971 and 1976, 2,539 nonpatient adults had tests of forced expiration, diffusing capacity, and single-breath nitrogen washout.

Washout versus non-washout (picolax) preparation for double-contrast barium enemas

Clinical Radiology, 1984
A non-washout preparation using Picolax in 40 patients, compared with a standard method using washouts in 38 patients, showed no significant difference in the contamination by residual formed or semiliquid faeces, although Picolax was associated with significantly more contamination due to adherent faeces and mucus.

Collisions in Washout

Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences, 1970
Abstract The collision of a falling drop With a small particle has been studied by high-speed photography. The trajectory of the particle relative to the center of the drop and relative to a fixed point has been determined under various conditions. The effect of electrostatic charges on drop and particle has been studied.

Renal washout and vascular resistances

European Journal of Nuclear Medicine, 1987
Evaluation of the vascular transit through a transplanted kidney depends on the convolution of the arterial bolus in the renal vasculature. In order to stress the importance of the renal artery, an example where a moderate stenosis resembled allograft rejection is given.

Washout of 133Xenon Gas from the Lungs: Comparison with Nitrogen Washout

Chest, 1972
The regional distribution of pulmonary ventilation is nonuniform in health and disease. Single and multiple breath techniques have been developed to assess this nonuniformity. Limitations of these expired gas techniques include: identification of only several of the component washout exponentials and preferential representation in this single curve of ...

Gallbladder Visualization after Hepatic Washout

Clinical Nuclear Medicine, 1987
Washout of hepatic activity on hepatobiliary scintigraphy has been used as a rationale to stop imaging during evaluation for acute cholecystitis. A case is presented that shows gallbladder visualization after the liver has washed out on analog images.
