The genome sequence of the ichneumon wasp Buathra laborator (Thunberg, 1822) [version 1; peer review: 2 approved]

open access: yesWellcome Open Research, 2023
We present a genome assembly from an individual Buathra laborator (Arthropoda; Insecta; Hymenoptera; Ichneumonidae). The genome sequence is 330 megabases in span. Over 60% of the assembly is scaffolded into 11 chromosomal pseudomolecules.

WASP-South transiting exoplanets: WASP-130b, WASP-131b, WASP-132b, WASP-139b, WASP-140b, WASP-141b and WASP-142b [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2016
We describe seven exoplanets transiting stars of brightness V = 10.1 to 12.4. WASP-130b is a "warm Jupiter" having an orbital period of 11.6 d around a metal-rich G6 star. Its mass and radius (1.23 +/- 0.04 Mjup; 0.89 +/- 0.03 Rjup) support the trend that warm Jupiters have smaller radii than hot Jupiters.

Males of the parasitoid wasp, Nasonia vitripennis, can identify which fly hosts contain females

open access: yesRoyal Society Open Science, 2022

WASP-South hot Jupiters: WASP-178b, WASP-184b, WASP-185b, and WASP-192b [PDF]

open access: yesMonthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society, 2019
ABSTRACTWe report on four new transiting hot Jupiters discovered by the WASP-South survey. WASP-178b transits a V = 9.9, A1V star with Teff = 9350 ± 150 K, the second-hottest transit host known. It has a highly bloated radius of 1.81 ± 0.09 RJup, in line with the known correlation between high irradiation and large size.

Evaluation of Native and Nonnative Ornamentals as Pollinator Plants in Florida: I. Floral Abundance and Insect Visitation

open access: yesHortScience, 2022
Diverse floral resources impart immense value for pollinating insects of all types. With increasing popularity and demand for modern ornamental hybrids, cultivation by breeders has led to selection for a suite of traits such as extended bloom periods and

Biotechnologies in pest wasp control: taking the sting out of pest management for Māori businesses?

open access: yesNew Genetics and Society, 2021
In Aotearoa New Zealand, the government’s ambitious target of becoming “predator-free” by 2050 has reignited public discussion on biotechnologies. The disproportionate abundance of German and common wasps in New Zealand disrupts native biodiversity and ...
