Ecosystem‐Centered Robot Design: Toward Ecoresorbable Sustainability Robots (ESRs)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Robots exploring natural ecosystems can support monitoring and conservation, but must adopt ecosystem‐centered design to avoid pollution, waste, and damage. This review proposes guidelines for co‐designing ecoresorbable sustainability robots (ESRs), uniting materials, robotics, and ecological contexts in a single framework.

Revealing the Mechanisms of Polyethylene Microplastics Affecting Anaerobic Digestion of Waste Activated Sludge.

open access: yesEnvironmental Science and Technology, 2019
Polyethylene (PE) microplastics retained in sewage sludge inevitably enter the anaerobic digestion system. To date, no information has been reported on the mechanisms of PE microplastics affecting anaerobic digestion of waste activated sludge (WAS). This

Bio‐Inspired Cascade Photocatalysis on Fe Single‐Atom Carbon Nitride Upcycles Plastic Wastes for Effective Acetic Acid Production

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This work demonstrates a novel cascade photocatalysis concept using Fe single‐atom catalysts (Fe@C3N4 SAC) to directly upcycle plastics (PET, PP, PE, PVC) into valuable acetic acid at ambient conditions. Inspired by microbial degradation, the bifunctional cascade photocatalyst combines Fenton‐like oxidation and CO2 photoreduction, as validated by ...

Technological Solution of Biogas Output Increasing at Grain Distillery Spent Wash Fermentation

open access: yesInnovative Biosystems and Bioengineering, 2018
Background. Distillery spent wash is the main waste of the alcohol industry. This is highly concentrated wastewater, which is characterized by high chemical oxygen demand (COD) values – up to 60–120 g O2/dm3 – and low pH values – up to 3.7. It makes its

Operation of an activated sludge plant for fellmongery wastewater treatment : a thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the degree of Master of Technology in Environmental Engineering at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Activated sludge is one of the most common wastewater-treatment processes used to reduce pollutant loads on the receiving environment. For efficient operation, there must be an effective process control and operation strategy in place to ensure that ...

Rhodamine B Adsorption Efficiency of Biochar Produced Through Co‐Pyrolysis of Municipal Sewage Sludge and Food Waste Mixture Under High‐Temperature Condition

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT With the large‐scale construction of wastewater treatment facilities, the production of municipal sewage sludge continues to rise. This sludge contains substantial amounts of toxic and hazardous substances, and improper disposal may lead to secondary environmental pollution.

Optimization of mesophilic anaerobic digestion of a conventional activated sludge plant for sustainability

open access: yesAlexandria Engineering Journal, 2019
Potential of nutrient recovery as struvite (NH4MgPO4·6H2O) with sole waste activated sludge (WAS) of a conventional activated sludge treatment plant has been investigated using computational modelling supported by laboratory experiments.

Process for purification of waste water produced by a Kraft process pulp and paper mill [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
The water from paper and pulp wastes obtained from a mill using the Kraft process is purified by precipitating lignins and lignin derivatives from the waste stream with quaternary ammonium compounds, removing other impurities by activated carbon produced

Characterization of natural Yemeni zeolites as powder sorbents for ammonium valorization from domestic waste water streams using high rate activated sludge processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND In this study three natural Yemeni zeolites (NZ1, NZ2 and NZ3) having major minerals such as clinoptilolite and mordenite, were evaluated as low cost sorbents for the removal and recovery of ammonium ions.
