Industrial Waste Treatment and Control [PDF]

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Public Health and the Nations Health, 1945
THE disposal of industrial process wastes creates a wide variety of problems involving one of our most valuable natural resources, namely, water. Uncontrolled waste discharges have 'the capacity of substantially impairing and often destroying natural stream values.

Carbonized Cow Dung as a High Performance and Low Cost Anode Material for Bioelectrochemical Systems

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2018
We develop a high-performance anode formed from carbonized cow dung for bioelectrochemical systems. Thermal gravimetric analysis showed that the CD carbonization process started at 300°C and ended at approximately 550°C; the weight was reduced by 51 ...

Recycling of NiTi Shape Memory Alloys: Fundamental and Technological Aspects of a Vacuum Induction Melting Processing Route

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The present study investigates recycling of NiTi shape memory alloys via vacuum induction melting. An ingot was synthesized from elemental Ni and Ti and subjected to three subsequent remelting cycles. Remelting increases process durations and impurity levels and adversely affects microstructures and functional properties.

Overlooked risk of antibiotic resistance genes in typical landfill plumes and their influencing factors

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Landfills are one of the primary reservoirs of antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). Previous studies always focus on the distribution of ARGs in landfill leachate, while the distribution of ARGs in groundwater around the landfill and the corresponding ...

Cometabolism of Fluoroanilines in the Presence of 4-Fluoroaniline by Ralstonia sp. FD-1

open access: yesJournal of Chemistry, 2015
A strain of Ralstonia sp. FD-1 capable of using 4-fluoroaniline (4-FA) as the sole carbon and nitrogen source was investigated for its ability to utilize 4-FA isomers (2-FA, 3-FA) and homologs (2,4-DFA, 3,4-DFA, and 2,3,4-TFA).

Current Status and Challenges in Data Collection for Aerospace Coatings Deposited by Plasma Spraying

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
An innovative approach has been integrated into the GRENAT project to optimize plasma spraying and coating performance. Raw materials are accelerated and melted in the plasma generated by torches, creating coatings. Monitoring sensors collect process data which are combined with ex situ characterization data.
