Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Circular Economy and its Prospects in Nepalese Agriculture

open access: yesTurkish Journal of Agriculture: Food Science and Technology, 2021
‘Circular economy’ in agriculture centres on the production of agricultural commodities using a minimal amount of external inputs, closing nutrient loops and reducing negative discharges to the environment (in the form of wastes and emissions).

Waste are purifying waste.

open access: yesHerald of Kola Science Centre of the RAS, 2020
Cost-effective and eco-friendly methods of novel sorbentproductionbased on a Ti, Ca and Mg phosphates have been carried out. The solid precursors were ammonium titanyl sulfate and calcined dolomite, which were used as titanium, calcium, and magnesium sources. The heterogeneous synthesis procedure in-cludes stepwise interaction between solid

Pioglitazone plus (−)‐epigallocatechin gallate: a novel approach to enhance osteogenic performance in aged bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Aged human bmMSCs are seeded in the scaffold. Osteoblastic induction can slightly increase cell's bone‐forming activity to produce bone‐like tissues, shown as the sporadic xylenol orange‐stained spots (the lower left image). Notably, pioglitazone plus EGCG co‐treatment dramatically increases cell's bone‐forming activity and bone‐like tissue production (

Effect of using biomass fly ash on the concrete sustainability

open access: yesActa Polytechnica CTU Proceedings, 2022
Biomass fly ash has been studied has a partial cement material, since this material has a positive effect on concrete properties. Even though, some mixes with BFA presents a positive benefit, they need to be economically competitive and present a good ...

Microglial dynamics and ferroptosis induction in human iPSC‐derived neuron–astrocyte–microglia tri‐cultures

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A tri‐culture of iPSC‐derived neurons, astrocytes, and microglia treated with ferroptosis inducers as an Induced ferroptosis model was characterized by scRNA‐seq, cell survival, and cytokine release assays. This analysis revealed diverse microglial transcriptomic changes, indicating that the system captures key aspects of the complex cellular ...

Chemical reactions and conditions of mineral formation at tailings storage facilities of the Russian Far East

open access: yesГорные науки и технологии, 2021
Cassiterite-sulfide and polymetallic deposits of the Far Eastern Region (FER) were mined by both openpit and underground methods. This resulted in the emerging numerous mine workings and tailings storage facilities (TSFs) (abandoned without reclamation ...

Questions raised about trace element fluxes in case of regular organic waste application as fertilizing practices: usefulness of a long-term field experiment network [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Today, the recycling of organic wastes (OW) in agriculture has been largely encouraged since it makes possible to recycle the nutrients they contain as substitute to mineral fertilizers.

Iron homeostasis disruption and lipid peroxidation in skeletal muscle during short‐term immobilization

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
14‐day casting‐induced immobilization reduced gastrocnemius muscle mass and increased non‐heme iron and ferritin heavy chain levels. Despite iron accumulation, transferrin receptor 1 and iron regulatory protein 2 were paradoxically upregulated. Lipid peroxidation was elevated without compensatory antioxidant responses.
