Antibiotic Residue in the Aquatic Environment: Status in Africa

open access: yesOpen Chemistry, 2018
Information on the presence of antibiotics is sparse for all types of water in Africa, including groundwater, surface water, effluent of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) and municipal potable water.

Flocculants from wastewater

open access: yes, 2020
Fields such as water and wastewater treatment, dredging, mining, food processing, textile and paper making, petroleum and chemical industries face the challenge of particle removal from (waste) water. The removal of solids from these water streams is generally achieved via the coagulation/flocculation process, which is a simple and effective way to ...

Efficient Low‐temperature Ammonia Cracking Enabled by Strained Heterostructure Interfaces on Ru‐free Catalyst

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Leveraging the strong metal‐support interaction effect, heterostructured interfaces in a Co‐based catalyst are designed to enable low‐temperature ammonia (NH3) decomposition. The induced tensile lattice strain within the core‐shell structure modulates d‐band center of Co, enhancing NH3 adsorption and facilitating N─H bond dissociation. Furthermore, the

Traceless Photopolymerization with Non‐Pulsed Red Light Enables 3D‐Printable Cell‐Laden Hydrogels

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The paper presents a red‐light‐induced polymerization process, initiated by the FDA‐approved dye methylene blue and the cytocompatible co‐initiator triethanolamine, for fabricating hydrogels. This photopolymerization process is oxygen‐tolerant, cytocompatible, and, most importantly, leaves no color traces, resulting in completely transparent scaffolds.

Aramid Nanofiber Aerogels: Preparation, Modification, Composite Fabrication, and Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Different forms of aramid nanofibers (ANFs) and especially aerogels from them, offer a sustainable route to high‐performance biomimetic nanocomposites. Due to the cartilage‐like architecture, ANF‐based materials enable breakthroughs in energy, electromagnetic, biomedical, and water purification technologies.

TiO2 Photocatalyst Nanoparticle Separation: Flocculation in Different Matrices and Use of Powdered Activated Carbon as a Precoat in Low-Cost Fabric Filtration

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2014
Separation of photocatalyst nanoparticles is a problem impeding widespread application of photocatalytic oxidation. As sedimentation of photocatalyst particles is facilitated by their flocculation, the influence of common constituents of biologically ...
