Elevating phosphorus accumulation in waste stabilisation pond algae : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Engineering at Massey University, Palmerston North, New Zealand [PDF]
Facultative waste stabilisation ponds (WSP) are used globally for wastewater treatment due to their low cost and simple operation. While WSPs can be effective at removing organic pollutants and pathogens, phosphorus removal is typically poor.

Dynamic model of a municipal wastewater stabilization pond in the arctic
Waste stabilisation ponds (WSPs) are the method of choice for sewage treatment in most arctic communities because they can operate in extreme climate conditions, require a relatively modest investment, are passive and therefore easy and inexpensive to operate and maintain.

Nitrification in bulk water and biofilms of algae wastewater stabilization ponds
Nitrogen removal in wastewater stabilization ponds is poorly understood and effluent monitoring data show a wide range of differences in ammonium. For effluent discharge into the environment, low levels of nitrogen are recommended. Nitrification is limiting in facultative wastewater stabilization ponds.

Effects of carbon dioxide addition on algae and treatment performance of high rate algal ponds : a thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements of the degree of Master of Engineering in Environmental Engineering at Massey University [PDF]
Waste stabilisation ponds have been used for treating a great variety of wastewaters around the world for many decades. More advanced systems combine anaerobic or advanced facultative ponds with high rate algal ponds (HRAP) followed by a number of algae ...

An assessment of the cost effectiveness of vegetation harvesting as a means of removing nutrient and metals from ponds [PDF]
This paper reports on an investigation to quantify the mass of pollutants removed from a stormwater retention pond by routine vegetation harvesting. The amount of plants can increase the costs of ponds, and the increased costs of plant maintenance may ...

Application of ponding systems in the treatment of palm oil mill and rubber mill eflluents [PDF]
Ponding is proposed as a viable low-cost treatment method for .palm oil and rubber mill effluents. Theoretical considerations were reviewed and discussed in relation to the design of ponds.
