THE AESTHETICS OF URBAN METABOLISM: Landscape, Design and the Politics of In/Visibility

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urban and Regional Research, EarlyView.
Abstract In this article, we chart the evolving aesthetic contours of urban metabolism across London, focusing on the River Lea and Thamesmead to the north and south of the River Thames, respectively. We begin in the nineteenth century, when these two sites formed critical nodes within a new sewerage system that relegated the city’s circulatory flows ...

Cytochrome P450 1A1 influences obesity‐induced pulmonary hypertension

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose The contribution of obesity to pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) pathophysiology remains poorly understood. Adipose tissue synthesises estrogens via cytochrome P450 (CYP) 19A1 (aromatase), whereas circulating estrogens are metabolised in the lung by CYP1A1.

Performance evaluation of anoxic and facultative wastewater stabilization ponds

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 1996
The performance of anoxic and facultative ponds in Jordan was investigated for 12 months. Calculated values of the first order kinetic equation rate for CBOD removal (KCBOD) has resulted in different KCBOD's for different ponds in the same month, at the same temperature.

Identify and Report Water Pollution: An Interpretive Guide to Surface Water Conditions of the New Hampshire Coastal Watershed, 2nd edition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This gude was designed to help people who work or recreate outdoors to interpret surface water conditions so that they would recognize a pollution incident and know how to report it.

Intergration of control chart and pattern recognizer for bivariate quality control [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Monitoring and diagnosis of mean shifts in manufacturing processes become more challenging when involving two or more correlated variables. Unfortunately, most of the existing multivariate statistical process control schemes are only effective in rapid ...

Modelling Nematode Egg Elimination in Wastewater Stabilization Ponds

open access: yesWater Science and Technology, 1992
The paper analyses data on intestinal nematode egg numbers (NNE) taken over a 30-month period in a large wastewater stabilization pond system. The retention time of 8-10 days suggested by WHO as the treatment expected to achieve an effluent with less than 1 nematode egg per litre was not supported by the results.

Facilitated Transport of Organic Contaminants in a High Concentration, Multicomponent Plume

open access: yesGroundwater Monitoring &Remediation, EarlyView.
Abstract A field experiment evaluated the transport of organic contaminants in a plume from hazardous waste disposal areas at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal. The plume contained many xenobiotic contaminants, with widely varying expected mobilities.

Evaluation of the Influence of Reactor Design on the Treatment Performance of an Optimized Pilot-Scale Waste Stabilization Pond [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Waste stabilization pond (WSP) is globally one of the most popular wastewater treatment options due to its high efficiency and low cost. A field scale prototype was designed and scaled down to a pilot-scale model using dimensional analysis in the ...

Effects of 17α‐Ethinylestradiol on Development and Gonadal Differentiation in the Estuarine Mummichog, Fundulus heteroclitus

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Zoology Part A: Ecological and Integrative Physiology, Volume 345, Issue 2, Page 148-161, March 2026.
ABSTRACT In fish, sex determination and gonadal development are controlled by various genetic and environmental factors. In this study, experiments were conducted on the estuarine mummichog (Fundulus heteroclitus) to investigate gonadal differentiation following exposure to the synthetic estrogen, 17α‐ethinylestradiol (EE2).

Degradation of Benzotriazole from aqueous solutions: A synergistic effect of nano- Fe2O3@Alg-TiO2 on UV/Fe2O3@Alg-TiO2 process [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Water and Environmental Nanotechnology
In this study, the decomposition of BTA was examined using a photocatalytic process (UV/Fe2O3@Alg-TiO2). The effects of various operational parameters such as the initial pH(3-7-10), catalyst dosage (0.05, 0.1, 0.15 g/L), BTA initial concentration (15–45
